Here’s a breakdown of Middletown’s projected starters (in bold) in the Class 3A PIAA State Championship game.

 

Quarterback

Sr. Chase Snavely 6-1, 185

Chase completed 89 of 151 passes for 2,112 yards and 23 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has rushed for seven touchdowns.

Coach’s comments, “He has a good work ethic, is extremely bright and his natural ability being very accurate with the ball. He spends so much time on film and throwing the ball after practice.”

 

Running Backs

Jr. Brady Fox 5-9, 195; Sr. Jaelen Thompson 5-11, 185; Jr. Tre Leach 5-9, 160; Fr. Jose Lopez; Sr. Corbin Stetler 5-8, 150; Sr. FB Justin Mayersky

Brady rushed for 1,427 yards on 174 carries and 22 touchdowns. Jaelen rushed for 1,595 yards on 199 carries and 19 touchdowns.

Coach’s comments, “We play five to six running backs each night. So it depends what play we want to run that week who starts the game for us. They all get their touches. All these guys can be on the field different times together. They all have their own strengths. Brady and Jaelen get most of the touches. Brady is a physical runner who has the knack to make people miss. Jaelen is a physical runner. When he gets in the open field he is hard to bring down.”

 

Offensive Line

Sr. LT Trey Michal 6-2, 270; Sr. LG Tom Staker 5-10, 240; Sr. C Ethan Newton 6-2, 240; Sr. RG Griffen Radabaugh 5-9 190; Jr. RT Brendan Douglass 6-4, 275

Coach’s comments, “Griffen is our captain and our leader. Tom is a four-year starter. Radabaugh, Trey and Newton are three-year starters. Brendan is a first-year starter. This group is bright, strong and they have experience.”

 

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends

Sr. TE Malik Noon 6-3, 200; Jr. Tyreer Mills 5-10, 160; Jr. Chris Plummer 6-2, 175

 Malik has seven catches for 180 yards and three touchdowns. Tyreer Mills leads the team with 27 catches for 716 yards and 12 touchdowns. Chris Plummer has a 181 yards receiving on 12 catches. Also look for Ryan Hughes who is back from a early injury this year. He’s averaging 19.1 yards per catch.

Coach’s comments, “Malik is a two-year starters. Tyreer is all-league and averaging over 26 yards a catch. He is a deep threat for us. Chris is a 6-foot-2 receiver that does some really nice things for us. We also throw to our running backs and we have 12 guys who caught the ball for us this year.”

 

Defensive Line

Sr. DE Tristen Maxwell 6-3, 220; Sr. DT Bobby Graham; Sr. DT Griffen Radabaugh 5-9, 190; Sr. DE Haiden Landis

Coach’s comments: Tristen is a two-year starter and two time all-league player for us as is Bobby. Griffen is a two-year starter and first year all-league player at tackle. Landis is a two-year starter. All four of these guys can run. There ability to get to the ball is there strength.

 

Linebackers

Sr. ILB Hunter Landis; Jr. ILB Blake Jacoby; Sr. OLB Laron Woody 6-0, 190; Jr. OLB Kyle Truesdale; Sr. OLB Corbin Stetler 5-8, 150

Coach’s comments, “Hunter is the defensive MVP of our league. He is a two-time all-league player. Blake is a first-year starter. Laron is our most underrated defensive player and is our most physical tackler on the team. Kyle and Corbin play outside linebacker for us. Corbin is just getting back from an early injury and Kyle was his replacement. This group of guys are physical and run well.”

 

Secondary

Jr. CB Tyreer Mills 5-10, 160; Jr. S Tre Leach 5-9, 160; Sr. CB Jonah McCoy 5-10 165

Coach’s comments, “Tyreer has several picks for us this year. They can run well and make a lot of checks at the line. They are very bright and they make sure we are in the right defenses.”

 

Final thoughts: Middletown needs to be the better tackling team and needs to block well. Beaver Falls is very athletic and they need to take good angles on their players. As big as they are they have to play with good pad level and make blocks to move them. This game will be one on both lines. Can Middletown give Snavely time to throw and open holes so Brady and Jaelen can make plays and move the chains? We will find out Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm.
