DISTRICT NOTES – WEEK 7:

RUNNING BACKS:  Mike Stasko of Palmerton scored 6 td’s in their win over Catasauqua.  The 6 td’s breaks the school record of 5 td’s held jointly by Gil Concepcion (1995) and Chris Siracuse (1997 & 98).  Stasko now has 17 td’s this year and is now tied for 3rd place at the school.  Kody Gildner (1994) and Jason Hernandez (1996) each scored 17 td’s in a season.  Stasko moved ahead of former Bombers, Walt Konek (16 in 1967), Derek George (16 in 2006), Phil McGarry (15 in 1978) and Chris Hager (15 in 1989).  Harry Hall of Northwestern broke Brett Snyder’s career td school record of 51 td’s.  Hall scored the game winner and his third of the game against Southern Lehigh to up his career total to 52 td’s.  Hall went over 1000 yards for the third straight year and has scored 16 or more td’s three years in a row.  Chris Monaco of the PM West rushed for 306 yards and three td’s in their win over ES South.  The 306 yards is 4th time in school history a player went over 300 yards rushing in a game.  Franklyn Quiteh has the other three, including his school record 395 yards that he set in 2008 against Jim Thorpe.  Monaco now has 25 carries for 368 yards (6 td’s) and 25 receptions for 379 yards (4 td’s).  North Schuylkill’s Richie Zahodnick subbing for injured qb Bobby Grigas rushed for 108 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Mount Carmel.  Major Jordan also rushed for 236 yards (second week in a row) in the game for the Spartans.  Devon Irwin of Salisbury returned 2 long fumble recoveries for td’s and also had a 63 yard td run in their win over Northern Lehigh.  Kyle Boney of Emmaus rushed for 297 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Central Catholic.  Boney takes over the District lead with his 1,444 yards rushing and 23 total td’s.  He also went over 2,000 yards in his career.  Antwon Keenan of Bethlehem Catholic also scored 4 td’s last week to match Boney’s 23 td’s.  Both players have 22 rushing td’s and 1 receiving td.  Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley now has 60 td’s for his career and is now tied with Mike Tracy of Marian Catholic for 28th place all-time in the District.  Wyatt Clements of Lehighton has 55 career td’s and is now tied for 37th place with Bob Tarola of Bethlehem Catholic and John Gruver of Palisades.  KJ Snerr of Marian Catholic returned to the lineup after missing time with an injury and rushed for 225 yards and 3 td’s to help get head coach Stan Dakosky his 300th win.  Boney (33), Snerr (31) and Robert Heller (31) of Jim Thorpe all went over 30 td’s for their careers.

QUARTERBACKS:  Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic, Tevon Weber of Salisbury, Tyler Cann of Lehighton, Nick Rodichok of  Williams Valley, Jake Jakobson of Stroudsburg and Cristian Burker of Catasauqua all went over 1,000 yards passing for the season last week.  Spigner also went over 5,000 yards for his career.  Tre Jordan of Notre Dame threw for 289 yards and 4 td passes last week to up his District lead to 1,891 yards.  It’s the second time this year that Jordan has thrown 4 td’s to four different receivers in a game.  His 1,891 yards moves him into 2nd place for a single season at Notre Dame.  Second place was previously held by Ric Schumacher who threw for 1,873 yards in 1990.  Jordan now has 19 td passes this year, breaking Schumacher’s school record of 18 that he set in 1990 as a junior.  Doug Erney of Liberty is now the all-time career leader at the school for passing yards, passing attempts and td passes.  All the records were previously held by Dan Persa.  Travis Stefanik of Nazareth ends his consecutive streak of 200 yard passing games at six.  Stefanik threw for 136 yards and 3 td’s in their win over ES North.  Giani Sinatore of Whitehall and Nick Rodichok of Williams Valley both went over 3,000 yards passing in their careers.

Looking at the career passing charts for District 11: Tre Jordan moves up to 7th place with his 6,400 yards.  He is currently 90 yards behind Ric Schumacher of Notre Dame.  Doug Erney of Liberty moves up to 11th place (5,888 yards).  Sitting in 10th place is Dan Kendra lll from Bethlehem Catholic (6,087).  Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic (5,006) is now in 25th place, 3 yards ahead of Dan Kendra of Central Catholic (1971-73). Devante Cross of Parkland (4,753) moves up to 31st.  For career td passes, Jordan (72) is now in 6th place all-time, one ahead of Wilson’s DJ Lenehan.  Erney (62) is still in 9th place.  Spigner (54) moves into a tie for 16th place with Barry Kennedy of Catasauqua.  Cross (51) is now in 22nd place.  Bobby Grigas of North Schuylkill is tied for 25th place with 48 career td’s.

RECEIVERS:  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh pushes his District lead to over 900 yards. Price now has 32 catches for 951 yards and 10 td’s.  Julian Liaci of Nazareth leads the District with 46 catches while Nick Basenese of Notre Dame remains 3 behind with 43.  Nate Stewart of Bethlehem Catholic now has 150 career catches for 2,549 yards and 32 td catches.  He moves into 5th place for yardage just ahead of Paryss Marshall of Catasauqua.  He moves up another spot with his 150 catches and is now tied for third place all-time with OJ Grow of Williams Valley.  Jahan Dotson of Nazareth caught 6 passes last week with 3 of them going for td’s.  Nate Harka and Mike Kane each caught a td pass in their win over Wilson.  That gives them both 14 career td’s. which is 1 behind the school record.  Harka went over 1,000 yards for his career and Kane needs 4 more yards to reach 1,000.  Aaron Weller of Notre Dame also went over 1,000 yards.  Trevor Cunningham of Northwestern caught 6 passes for 120 yards vs Southern Lehigh to become the first Tiger ever to have two 100 yard receiving games in the same season.

Week 7 Trivia:  Name the 2 current head coaches in District 11 that rushed for 1,000 yards in a season for a District 11 team.

Week 6 Trivia:  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh leads the District with 9 td catches this year.  Price is tied with 2 other players at Southern Lehigh.  Name those 2 players.  Price was tied with Dave Wood and Jeff Smillie.  Wood had 9 in 1974 and Smillie had 9 in 2010.  Price had a td catch last week and now has 10 this year, tying Jake Meluskey’s school record.  Meluskey, a fullback, set the record in 2011 when he caught 32 passes for 508 yards and the 10 td’s.  Meluskey also rushed for 1,139 yards and another 9 td’s.

Week 5 Trivia:  Which one of these Salisbury receivers is tied with current Falcon Mason Donaldson for the most career td catches.  Antoine Hubbard, John Gardus, Andrew Haldeman, Joey Remmel, Chris Burda, Doug Durepo, Scott Gardus or Jesse Phillips.  John Gardus had 14 td catches.  He had 7 in 2006 and 7 more in 2007. Hubbard and Haldeman each had 12 td catches in their careers.

Week 4 Trivia:  Tevon Murray, a 6’6″ wide receiver from North Schuylkill didn’t catch one of Bobby Grigas’ 3 td passes last week vs Marian Catholic.  That snapped a streak of 11 consecutive games with a td catch.  The District 11 record is 14 consecutive games.  Who holds the record? Kevin Gulyas of Central Catholic.  The streak started in 2010 with the playoffs.  Gulyas caught a td in all 6 playoff games including their win over Bishop McDevitt in the State final.  He then caught a td pass in the first 8 games of the 2011 season.  His streak ended when they played in a snow storm vs Allen.  With Central up 33-0 at halftime, the game was called.  Gulyas caught the only 2 completions from Brendan Nosovitch for 6 yards.

Week 3 Trivia:  Jahan Dotson of Nazareth broke the District 11 record for most catches for a player in their freshman and sophomore seasons.  Dotson has 75 catches so far in his career.  Who held the old record with 72 catches?  Matt Camilletti of Pius X (2008-09).

Week 2 Trivia: Name the only pair of brothers from District 11 to each rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season.  Joe and Jim Agosti of Marian Catholic did the trick in 1976.  Senior Joe, rushed for 1,050 yards and 8 td’s, while brother Jim, a junior rushed for 1,274 yards and 23 td’s (both school records at the time).  Jim would go over 1,200 yards again as a senior in 1977.  Jim totaled 142 points in 1976 to break the old Carbon County scoring record that was held since 1956.  Eddie Kocha of Nesquehoning (also a junior) scored 141 points in 9 games.  The year before in 1975, Marian also had 2 players rush for 1,000 yards each.  Pete Albano rushed for 1,268 yards and Fred Segilia rushed for 1,038 yards.  The head coach for the 1975 and 1976 seasons was Chuck Rocconi.  The following year, Stan Dakosky took over the team and is now in his 38th year.

Week 1 Trivia: Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh also broke the District 11 single game receiving yardage record with his 296 yards.  Who held the old District record? Kevin Gulyas (2011 vs Parkland) of Central Catholic and Quintin Lopez (2004 vs Southern Columbia) of Pius X both had 280 yards in a game.
