Dawgs bite early, cruise to 35-6 win over Mounts

Members of both the Berwick Bulldogs and Dallas Mountaineers were up at the crack of dawn today with a 10 AM game scheduled for Saturday morning in the Back Mountain.

The contest was moved from a 1 PM start to a 10 AM start in hopes of beating the heavy rained forecasted to hit Northeastern Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon.

Beating the rain worked, but as for the Mounts beating the Dawgs, well let’s just say that was certainly not in the forecast.

Not even an early start time would effect the Bulldogs as they scored early and often to the tune of a 35-0 lead at the half.

Sr. TE Ryan Sitler got the Dawgs on the board with a long TD reception from Jr. QB AJ Mihaly for an early 7-0 lead after a PAT by Sr. K Shane Kitzmiller.

Berwick added another quick score after Mihaley took one to the goldzone. Then Sr. Duff Law added another rushing TD giving the Dawgs a 21-0 lead with time winding down in the first quarter.

Berwick’s Jr. FS Mike Dalberto got in on the scoring to start the second quarter, intercepting a pass and rumbling 55 yards to paydirt.

Sitler finished off the Berwick scoring barrage hauling in a 34 yard TD reception from Mihaly late in the second quarter.

The score would be the Dawgs last of the morning as they started the second half with Dallas in the mercy rule.

Dallas would manage to get on the scoreboard in the second half as Berwick worked on the clock.

Scoring for the Mounts was Sr. RB Dean Chopka on a two yard jaunt after a long pass reception set Dallas up deep in Berwick territory.

The Dawgs will now look to a showdown at Crispin Field this coming Friday night as they host rival Hazleton Area.

Both teams will come in to the contest with records of 8-1 and guaranteed spots in their respective playoff classes.

It will be the biggest game in Berwick since a crushing loss to Valley West in 2007. On that day the Dawgs declared a white out as all fans were asked to were white.

Can I suggest changing the color to Bulldog Blue?

This isnt the 90s berwick doesnt have powlus and even then we almost beatem if it wasnt for the lucky run that powlus had, I mean how is berwick rewarded a national title when hazleton takes them to the brink, o i know that one george curry = most overated coach in history(to go along with Powlus most overated QB it shows what he did at the college level) he will never win a AAAA title…EVER (campbell haha he cant even get berwick to the 2nd round of AAA) Mihaly who?

Berwick beat Hazleton two seasons ago Tony, and he beat George and Valley West this season handily…Hazleton beat Valley West right? Oh, thats right, ole’ sly George took down the Cougars. Good luck this week, Go Dawgs.

please will the berwick fans get a clue, hazleton is not in the same category as dallas. it will be a long night for the puppies in berwick as the cougars show why they are a powerhouse, something berwick use to be when a guy named curry was there. guess what, curry has gone to a better place and campbell has not figured out how to beat the cougars. it might be a close game for a while but berwick will be just another victim for the red, silver and white express. the final score will be HAHS-35
berwick-24. trick or treat, berwick beware of the cougars
