kennyweek102014It’s been 8 long years since Nativity (4-6) and Minersville (3-7) squared off. This coal region rivalry has historically been dominated by Minersville but an explosive Nativity offense looked to change it losing ways against the Battlin’ Miners. An impressive pass rush knocked the Green Wave offense out of sync as the Battlin’ Miners won the game 42-15.

Minersville used it powerful rushing attack to find the end zone all night. The Battlin’ Miners rushing attack put 7 touchdowns on the scoreboard. Senior David Schultz carried the ball 15 times for 77 yards and found the end zone four times to lead the Minersville rushing attack.

The Battlin’ Miners entered the locker room with and 18-0 lead. Nativity would receive the second half kickoff and look to build momentum. Unfortunately, Quarterback Dominic Piccioni found the ball in the hands of Minersville cornerback Steele Fekette off a deflection.

Minersville would cash in on this turnover as senior running back Brett Killian punched it in from 1 yard away giving Minersville a commanding 24-0 lead. The Battlin’ Miners would find the end zone two more times before the end of the third quarter as they opened up a 34-0 lead.

The Battlin’ Miners added another score to begin the fourth giving them a commanding 42-0 lead. Nativity would find the board twice in the fourth quarter however as Piccioni found star wide out Jeff Yordy from 42 yards away and 13 yards away.

Senior wide receiver Jeff Yordy eclipsed the 1,000 yard receiving mark as he ended his season with 1045 yards receiving. Yordy played only one year of varsity high school football.

Jeff Yordy gave his thoughts on his amazing year at wide receiver.

“It feels good, but at the end of the day we still lost and that really sucks at the end of the season. I wish I could have played with these guys a lot longer.”

11 seniors hang up the Green and Gold this season.
