Coaches Q&A with Phil Gormley:

Q. What are his strengths on offense?

A. He was our top running back last year and this year we’re moving him to quarterback position. He can run the ball and being 6-foot-1, 190-pounds he runs with authority.

We run Oregon’s inside/outside zone. The key is making the correct decisions in an option offense.

His biggest strength is, he’s been playing football since he was six years old. He played a lot of different positions. That is why we’re comfortable moving him to quarterback. When he was a young kid, he was a lineman.

He really has a strong arm and doesn’t have a problem throwing the ball 45 or 50 yards in the air and he’s comfortable throwing the short passes too.

Q. What are his strengths on defensive side?

A. He’s a very good open field tackler and a tough kid. The last two years he’s had nine interceptions.

Q. Is he playing special teams this year?

A. He did kickoff and punt returns last year and this year he’s going to punt for us again. I think he’s the best punter in the public league. He punted the ball consistently over 40 yards. He also held for extra points.
