Week 3 notes:

Allen senior, Courtney Watson shattered the schools single game rushing record last week against ESN.  Watson rushed for 237 yards on 10 carries to break Marcus Reichard’s record of 199 yards set in 1999 vs Dieruff.

Elijah McBride of East Stroudsburg North became the schools first player to have 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving in the same game.  McBride had 8 carries for 128 yards (2 td’s) while catching 2 passes for 111 yards and a score against Allen.

Nazareth’s Jordan Gray scored 3 td’s for the third week in row.  Gray has 9 td’s on the season and needs 64 yards to reach 3,000 yards in his career.

Catasauqua senior, Ra’Von Burton scored 3 td’s vs Palisades and now has 30 for his career.

Cole Barnhardt of Williams Valley went over 2,000 yards rushing for his career and now has an even 2,100 yards.

Sophomore Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley now has 20 career tds’.  Schuylkill Haven junior, William Casella scored 4 td’s vs Minersville.

Mahanoy Area QB, Dylan Mahmod rushed for 184 to up his district lead to 701 yards.

Saucon Valley tailback, Nick Savant rushed for 183 yards and a td.  Savant also caught a 54 yard td pass against Northern Lehigh after sitting out last week with an injury.

Freshman Darion Jacoby of Pottsville rushed for 144 yards and a td in a 23-21 win over Blue Mountain.  Will Bornstein of Blue Mountain rushed for 200 yards in the loss.

Eli Redmond of Parkland scored his 25th career touchdown last week against Northampton.

Jr. Hunter Harner of Tri-Valley ran for 211 yards last week and now has 456 yards on the season.

Sr. Brandon Leap of Pleasant Valley threw 2 td passes against Pocono Mountain West to up his career total to 37.  That breaks the school record of 36 set by Derrik Walling (2008-10).

Northwestern junior Frank Dangello threw 3 td passes last week to break the school career record of 15 held jointly by Steve Schaffer (1997-98), Vinnie Jones (2004-06) and Kyle Stelmack (2006-08).  Dangello now has 17 career td passes.

Sr. Zack Bradley of Catasauqua joins the “40 td pass” club with his 2 td passes (266 yards) against Palisades.

Stephen Sedesse of Williams Valley threw for 237 yards and 4 td passes in a win over Millersburg.

Bethlehem Catholic’s sophomore qb Julian Spigner threw for 230 yards and 3 td’s against Easton.

Nazareth’s Spencer King has thrown for over 200 yards in all 3 games this year.

KJ Williams of Liberty caught his 24th and 25th career td passes last week vs Nazareth.

Paryss Marshall of Catasauqua kept pace with Williams as he caught his 20th and 21st career td passes.  Marshall had 10 catches 202 yards in the game vs Palisades.  The 10 catches falls one short of the school record held by Matt Andrews.  Andrews caught 11 passes in a game twice including the last game of his career against Northampton in 1996.  Marshall’s 202 yards breaks the school record of 193 yards that Kyle Lahue had against Northern Lehigh in 2004.  Jacob Del Priore went over 1,500 yards receiving in his career (1,524) and is closing in on the school record of 1,674 held by Jeff Smillie from 2008-10.

THE PRESENT AND THE PAST:

Jr. Freddie Simmons of Bethlehem Catholic caught 5 passes for 212 yards and 3 td’s in a 49-35 loss to Easton.  The 212 yards is the third highest at the school.  He averaged 42.4 yards per catch.  Shawn Martell holds the top 2 spots with 221 yards against Altoona and 218 yards against Easton, both in 2001.  Ironically, Martell achieved those yardage totals with only 5 and 4 catches respectively and also holds the school record with a whopping 54.5 yards per catch against Easton.  With all that said, where do you think Simmons’s father (also named Freddie) played football?  You guessed it, Easton.  Simmons was a two year starter at linebacker for the Rovers and was the starting tailback on the 1987 team.  Simmons would rush for 968 yards on only 127 carries (7.6 avg.) and score 9 td’s in his senior year.  He also caught 12 passes for 115 yards.  In 1986, Simmons had 4 interceptions and rushed for 178 yards on 30 carries while backing up 1,000 yard rusher Frankie Lane.
