Lower Dauphin’s Joe Julius breaks his school record

Last weekend Joe Julius kicked a 54-yard field goal breaking his own record of 52-yards that was set in 2011. He also had a 37-yard field goal last weekend in Lower Dauphin’s 29-6 victory over Susquehanna Township.

Julius has kicked three field goals of 50-yards or more. “He actually kicked two 52-yard field goals his sophomore year,” said head football coach Rob Klock.

The all-time record for longest field goal in Pennsylvania is 64-yards which is held by Bishop Hoban’s Gerry McGroathy. He kicked it in 2003. “There was one game this year we were going to try and break the record. In warmups he was putting the ball through the uprights at around 65 yards. But we had a five-yard penalty and I decided to punt the ball.”

So far this season he is 8 of 11 on field goal attempts and 25 of 25 on PAT. “He is such a weapon on special teams for us and our overall special teams have been great.”

Joe has committed to play Division I soccer at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. “Joe is a good student and works hard. He doesn’t play soccer for our school. He plays on a travel team in Lancaster.” “He is a great athlete and very fast. We may at some point line him up at wide receiver.”
