Father Judge QB Tony Smith generating D-1 interest

Written by: Josh Funk on Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Tony Smith, a senior-to-be who will be entering his third year as the starting varsity quarterback at Father Judge High School, has been receiving some Division-1 interest, according to Scout.com.

To date, Smith has received interest, but no offers, from seven Division-1 programs – UCONN, Georgia, Illinois, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse and Temple, according to Scout. Smith is a 6’4, 210-pound athlete.

As a junior, Smith completed 111-of-215 passes for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns. He threw for 100+ yards in seven of Judge’s 11 games last season. For his career, Smith has thrown for 2,838 yards and 26 touchdowns – he could become the seventh quarterback in Philadelphia Catholic League history to surpass 4,000 career passing yards.

Smith has averaged 1,419 passing yards per season, and if he keeps that average, he could surpass the career totals of former PCL quarterbacks Sean McGovern (Cardinal Dougherty, 4,045 yards) and Mike Bailey (Archbishop Carroll, 4,074 yards).

Smith directed a Judge offense that averaged 22.36 points and 254.6 yards of total offense per game in 2009.

The Crusaders, who finished 5-6 overall, rolled through their first four games, outscoring their opponents by a 142-53 margin. But Judge limped to a disappointing 1-6 finish, with the lone win a 20-6 decision against Public League rep Abraham Lincoln.
