Class 5A Co-Players of the Year, Shawn Thompson & Raheem Blackshear, Archbishop Wood

Our Class 5A Players of the Year are the running duo from Archbishop Wood. Shawn Thompson and Raheem Blackshear combined to rush for 2,567 yards on 289 carries and 34 touchdowns in 2016.

On December 11th, Archbishop Wood won their fourth PIAA State title and were led by Blackshear and Thompson. Blackshear rushed for 243 yards on 35 carries and three touchdowns.

“Raheem is a threat every time he touches the ball,” said Head Football Coach Steve Devlin. “He is a true game breaker. He has speed, power and great vision. He has great hands and is a great route runner as well. He was a shut down corner for us.”

Thompson rushed for 133 yards and one score against Harrisburg.

“Shawn Thompson is an outstanding football player. He was a leader for our football team. He did whatever we asked of him and he excelled at all of it. He was a 2 time All Catholic selection for us. Some lucky college is going to get a tremendous football player but an even better young man who they will be proud to have in their program.”
