Q & A with Marian Catholic head football coach Stan Dakosty

We sat down with Dakosty and talked to him about his team for the 2012 season.

How is your camp going this summer?

Off-season has been successful and our numbers are strong. We will turn out 44 players for varsity. We are looking forward to the season.

Who do you have coming back on offense?

Our biggest question mark on offense is on the offensive line. We only have one player coming back with experience. So it’s wide open. JP O’Connor is the player coming back. He started about four or five games for us.

We have two quarterbacks coming back. They are Ryan Karnish and Corey Quick. Both will see time.

Our tailbacks will be Dylan Quirk and Anthony Agosti. Both are very athletic and big play players. My fullbacks are Derich Holman and Sam Budusky. Both have experience.

Lukas Damian is our tight end. He has had an outstanding off-season. My receivers are Eric Swankoski, John Julian and Mike Cataldo. We can go four or five deep at receiver. That is our strength on offense.

Who do you have coming back on defense?

Our anchor on the defensive line is our nose guard, Derich Holman. My tackles and ends are pretty much wide-open.

We have three linebackers. They are Lukas Damian, Sam Budusky and Damian Richards.

In the secondary we have John Julian, Ryan Karnish, Dylan Quirk and Anthony Agosti. Mike Cataldo and Frank Nietz will see some time.

Our secondary is our strength on defense.

Who do you have coming back on special teams?

Punting wise we have Dylan Quirk back. He had an outstanding year punting for us last year. We are bringing up a ninth grader to kick for us.

League

We need to be consistent. One thing about the Anthracite is every week it’s a battle. We play some tough non-league teams. We have Lehighton and Pius X.

To have a successful season you have to?

One thing that killed us last year was turnovers. We need to do better this year if we want to be successful.

Home Opener

Marian Catholic opens at Lehighton on August 31st
