Coaches comments:

How’s your offensive line?

“We return five out of six players on the line. We have returning across the front, Kyle Wingle at offensive tackle. Nathanial Krammer at guard and Zach Kerschner is back at center. The other offensive tackle is Ken Harig. Ken is a two-year starter and the other two kids are three-year starters as well as Mike Feryo. There is a battle for the other guard spot.”

“Mike Feryo returns at tight end. He is a big target at 6-foot-4, 240-pounds. He runs a 4.8 in the 40. We are going to get him involved in the offense more this year. When we go two tight end sets, Alec Bailey is our other tight end.”

Who’s your quarterback?

“Ryan Fink is back at quarterback. Fink did a nice job for us last year. He had 1,158 total yards last season as a sophomore. As a runner he is more of a slasher. He likes to use his athleticism running inside or outside. He has great vision and sees the field really well. He is a true tailback playing at quarterback.”

How’s your running game?

“We have William Casella back. He was our leading rusher. He rushed for 1,255 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is a north to south runner. We have back Nick Kerschner. He played some as a freshman. Vinny Fanelli adds depth. We also have John Hefner and Brett Biever back and Junior running back Tay-Shon Green. We will rotate a lot of players. Each back is unique and depending on the formations we are in and the types of outcomes we are looking for in those situations we will rotate backs in. We typically use three backs all times and all formations.”

How are your receivers?

“We have Alec Bailey back. He was a two-way starter for us his sophomore year and didn’t play his junior year. We have Zavier Webb back and he played his sophomore year. We may have some kids rotate in. They are Nick Kerschner, Brett Biever and Tay-Shon Green. Our split ends do a lot of down blocking. Our receivers nine out of 10 times are going to be blocking.”

How’s your defensive line?

“We have a lot returning on the line. Jack Hower is a defensive end. Also you will see Cody Metz and Kevin King in there. We also are moving Alec Bailey back to defensive end, he played there his sophomore year. He is back at defensive back. Across the front you will see a rotation of Nathanial Kramer, Ken Harig, Kyle Wingle, Dylan Detweiler and Max Motko. We have five or six players we feel comfortable with. Our strength on the line is experience, strength, toughness and foot quickness. We have thee kids over 285 pounds and as big as they are they are really quick in the box.”

How are your linebackers?

“We have Zach Kerschner back at middle linebacker. He is a three-year starter. He makes all of the calls on defense. We are moving Mike Feryo from end to linebacker spot. Ryan Fink will see time at linebacker spot along with William Casella and Nick Kerschner.”

How’s your secondary look?

“In the secondary we have everybody back. We have Ryan Fink, John Heffner and Tay-Shon Green back. We also have Vinny Fanelli and Brett Biever back there. We have a couple of players battling for some playing time back there. Last year we were lean back there and this year we are seven or eight players deep. All those kids will be battling for playing time and the only lock we have in the DB role is Ryan Fink.”

You have a lot of experience back this year. Why?

“We have everyone back from two years ago. Bunch of my skill kids last year decided they were going to play baseball in the fall. Most are back this year. We are returning 17 starters from the last two-years.”

What do you need to work on the defensive side of the ball?

“We need to work on our secondary play. We are strong in the box.”

What do you need to do to improve your offense?

“We need to establish a throwing threat to compliment the running game. We think this year with the additions to a couple of athletes, we can throw the football this year. Than we can have a more diverse offense. We are going to be able to do other things this year and teams are going to have to respect our passing game.”
