2011 Big School Offensive Player of the Year: Kevin Gulyas, Allentown Central Catholic

Central Catholic’s wide receiver Kevin Gulyas set the standard for receivers in Pennsylvania. All season teams tried to double-team him and yet he had one of the greatest seasons a receiver has ever done.

His senior year was highlighted with big time numbers. Against Downingtown East he caught seven passes for 187 yards and two scores. His biggest regular season game was against Parkland when he caught 15 passes for 277 yards. The first round of the state playoffs he caught five touchdowns passes against Valley View.

He finished the year catching 122 passes for 2,031 yards and 27 touchdowns. He averaged 8.1 yards per catch and almost two touchdown catches per game.

His sophomore season he caught 41 passes for 837 yards and seven touchdowns. It was his junior year where he started to stand out.

As a junior he caught 78 passes for 1,282 yards and 19 touchdowns as his team won their third PIAA Class 3A title last season. The previous times they won were in 1993 and 1998.

Gulyas finished his career as the state record-holder in every major single-season and career receiving category. All of these records came this season.

Hazleton’s Donald Patrick previously held the career record of yards with 3,542 in 1999. Seton-LaSalle’s Carmen Connolly previously held the career reception record with 221 catches from 2002-2205.

   Congratulations to Kevin Gulyas on this award. Along with Brendan Nosovitch the greatest duo in Pennsylvania high school football history. And he came up through the ranks in the little vikings program. Along with brendan a TRUE Central Catholic Viking!
