Years with Varsity: His freshman year he started at cornerback. He made all-league as a freshman. He also played wide receiver.

Starting experience: He started his sophomore and junior year at quarterback.

2013 Stats: He completed 118 of 190 passes for 2,755 yards and 39 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns.

Coaches Q&A with Matt Hildebrand:

Q. What are his strengths as a quarterback?

A. One of his strengths is decision making. He doesn’t force a lot of balls in there. Last season he had 39 touchdowns and only six interceptions.

He has great arm strength and he has the ability to make plays with his arm and can make all the throws. Sometimes in practice he’s throwing it too hard for certain receivers we have to tell him to bring it down a little bit.

He does a great job finding the open receiver. Last year we had three receivers over 20 catches.

 

 

Q. How is he as a runner?

A. He does a good job running and you may see him run more this year. Last year he didn’t have to run a lot for us. But he does have the ability to run if he has to. He is a big strong kid possibly the strongest kid on our team.

 

 

Q. Talk about his record setting year last year?

A. He has a good work ethic both on and off the field. He is the hardest worker I have ever had as a coach and he has a relentless drive to win. So, he leads the team that way and never settles for anything less. He puts countless hours in during the offseason. So, all these things have contributed to his record setting year.

 

 

Q. What type of defensive player is he?

A. He’s a physical player on defense and likes to play man-to-man. Sometimes he goes up against a quicker kid and uses his strength to slow that kid down. He has football smarts and natural instincts out there. Also, playing quarterback helps him on defense reading the other quarterback.
