Coaches Q&A with Chuck Dailey:

Q. What are his strengths at running back?

A. He’s more of a slasher and is a powerful and quick runner. He’s not much of a dancer, he’s going to make that one cut and get up field. He’s a very explosive player and very physical.

His hands are good and we did throw to him last year with a lot of the short stuff out of the backfield. This year he will move in the slot now and then and run more intermediate routes.

At times we may line him up in the wildcat. So, this year we’re moving him all over to try and get him the ball in different places.

Q. What are his strengths on defense?

A. He’s going to show leadership in the secondary this year. He is a very disciplined player and is going to do what he is supposed to do by doing his job.

He’s very physical and is a strong tackler. This year he’s going to play corner. But at times he may play some man coverage.

Q. How’s he as a kick returner?

A. He’s a good north/south runner and our playmaker on special teams.

Q. What’s he doing in the offseason?

A. He has gone to a lot of camps this offseason. He has gone to Rutgers, Lafayette, Nike camps and others.

He’s working on all the little things to prepare for this season. He’s going to Iron Core Athlete and getting stronger.

Q. Final thoughts on Elijah?

A. He’s a true throwback player. There’s not that many kids today that live for football and he’s one of those kids that just eats it up. Every day is about getting better and getting prepared for the season.

He is a good kid and does it in the classroom.

Schools of Interest: As of 7/01, he has interest from Boston College, Connecticut, Fresno State, Maryland, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia
