Coaches Q&A with John Truby:

Q. What kind of leader is he?

A. He’s showing me in the offseason that he’s a leader on our team. This year you can see he’s more confident in everything.

The other kids have noticed a difference in him this offseason. I’ll give you an example. When your quarterback is benching 265 and he let’s everyone know he’s benching 265, it’s a nice little poke at some of the larger guys to say, I have to get at it.

The other players see he’s putting the work in and is ready to go. So everyone is doing it.

Q. What are his strengths at quarterback?

A. One strengths is his footwork. He has nice foot work inside the pocket and is dangerous when he runs the ball.

He’s really starting to come in to his own this offseason. This year he has really taken ownership of the offense. He feels more comfortable with what we are trying to do.

One thing that stands out is that it doesn’t matter if he has pressure in his face or he’s moving around, he can put the ball where it needs to be.

With our zone read offense I think he’s reading it better. He has a better understanding of when to give or when to keep. With him adding more muscle I think you are going to see him initiate the contact more when he runs the ball.

Q. What is he doing in the offseason?

A. He has been working out hard and putting on good muscle over the summer. He’s working on the little things to get better.

He’s working on his short game. The long passes have always been there and he’s good at it. He has a great touch and that is something you can’t teach.

He’s the cream of the crop for sure in District 11. Great arm, great touch and scary quickness. Hopefully they let him run the ball more!
