Coaches Q&A with Joe Henrich:

Q. What kind of leader is he?

A. He’s respected by his teammates and I look to him to take the next step as one of our leaders this year.

Q. What are his strengths at quarterback?

A. He’s a tall kid and has good vision and a strong arm. He has been working hard to be a better quarterback and is very coachable and intelligent. He doesn’t make bad decisions.

He’s a dual threat quarterback who can run or pass. We can get him out on the perimeter and run/pass option. He can make plays with his leg or arm.

We’re looking forward to seeing him grow the next couple of years. As a sophomore last year, the game was very fast. He needed to learn how to slow it down and see things and once he did that he had the ability to go through progression a lot better.

Now, in his second year, he’s a returning guy with a lot of confidence and I think the game should slow down for him.

Q. Will he play any defense for you this year?

A. He does not have a defensive position and probably won’t see anytime there, unless it’s a special situation or we need him too.
