ASTON PA: Heading into the Friday evening non league contest against the Sun Valley Vanguards Haverford Sr. RB Dante Pergolese had one number on his mind that was 1385. Why 1385 you ask? Well that’s the Haverford school record for most rushing yards in a season and it was set by Scott Lipschutz in 2005. Pergolese who only needed 60 yards to break the record broke the record as his Fords downed the Vanguards 17-0 at Dr. Wally Field.

For the first twelve minutes it looked as if the Vanguard defense was determined not to let the record be broken on them as through the first twelve minutes the Vanguard defense held Pergolese to 29 yards on 7 carries and shut down the Fords attack when they had the ball at the SV 28 before the Fords stalled resulting in an turnover on downs. The Fords defense also looked very tough as the held the Vanguards to 10 yards of total offense in the first frame resulting in a scoreless first.

After Sr.QB Kevin White hit Pat Maloney for a 9 yard touchdown and the extra point by Kevin Martin made it a 7-0 lead in favor of the Fords. It was time for history to be made with about seven minutes left in the first half Pergolese took the handoff and broke a few tackles picking up four yards to break the schools record. “It’s a memorable thing but I got to give all the credit to guys who play offense with me” is what Pergolese would say about the record. Pergolese would finish the game with 123 yards on 29 carries On the same drive as the record breaker the Fords would add to their lead with a 25 yard field goal by Martin. The field goal capped a drive that went 48 yards on 11 plays and ate 3:55 of clock.

On the Fords first drive of the second half they looked to Pergolese and White who was making his first start of season filling in for injure QB Liam McGrath. The duo would respond has they accounted for 69 of the 80 yards that ended with a White touchdown pass to Maloney from 11 yards out. White would finish the game completing 7 of 11 passes for 58 yards 2 touchdowns, White would also add 57 yards on 11 carries. When asked about Maloney White responded “He’s my best friend, got good hands so I look for him.” Ford head Coach Joe Gallagher said “We are lucky to have Kevin”

From there the Fords turned the game to their defense to preserve the shut out and that’s what they did behind the great play of Kevin Sack who intercepted two John Wellbrock passes.

The Vanguards were led offensively by Sr. WR Donnie Krause who caught 3 passes for 32 yards. Up next for both teams is their turkey bowl game. The Fords will hit the road to take on Central League rival Upper Darby with kick off schedule for 1045 while the Vanguards will travel to Chichester for a 10:30 kick off with the Eagles.
