O’Hara Downs Germantown Shows Room for Improvement

PHILADELPHIA: Throughout his six year career at Cardinal O’Hara Head Coach Dan Algeo knows that the scoreboard doesn’t always tell the store and Friday night the scoreboard read 41-6 in favor of his Lions over the Germantown Bears out the Philadelphia Public League. Even through the score did goes his team Coach Algeo wasn’t impressed nor was he dismayed with his teams performance that saw the Lions piled up a whopping 419 yards offensively. “We’re a work in progress, We’ve got a long way to go. We’ve just got to get better overall.” Is what Algeo said after the game.

The Lions wasted little time jumping on the Bears has on their second play of the game from scrimmage Adam Dempsey showed his speed and busted through the Bears defense on his way to a 51 yard touchdown. Giving the Lions the 6-0 nothing

Two possessions later the Lions would add to their with 3 yard touchdown from Corey Brown. The Brown touchdown capped a four play 27 yard drive. Brown would finish the game with 22 carries for 109 yards

Defensive the Lions looked in midseason forum holding the Bears to just two first downs and 49 yards of total offensive. Defensively the Lions were led by Brown, Sr. Brendan O’Callaghan and Jr Ryan Laughlin. Brown and Laughlin each had one interception to lead the Lions. When asked about his defensive teams’ performance O’Callaghan responded were just great defensively. We were getting a pretty good rush.

The Lions would add more to their lead before halftime when Laughlin hit a wide open Dan Curry for a 7 yard touchdown giving the Lions the 20-0 lead.

The Lions would add to their lead on the first drive of the second when they drove 54 yards on 9 plays before Dan O’Hara powered his way in from 3 yards out

On the ensuing kickoff the Bears Dominque Simmons would bust through the Lions kickoff coverage and race 90 yards for the touchdown.

The Lions would respond in the fourth quarter when Laughlin would hit Brown for a 16 yard touchdown pass. Laughlin finish the game 9 for 8 for 86 yards and two touchdown passes.

The Future of the Lions would be put on the display for the Lions to capped the scoring when Demiere Shaw with help of a big block by Casey Strus sprung loose for a 70 yard touchdown.

Up next for the Lions is date Saturday afternoon at North Catholic with kickoff schedule for 1 pm at Frankford High School while the Bears will take on the District 1 powerhouse Neshaminy Thursday night
