I have no problem at all with North Penn being huge. The private schools can recruit or accept kids from anywhere so if a public school has an enrollment advantage so be it. The advantage of sheer size can offset the disadvantage of not being able to recruit to some extent. And there’s no way they should add extra classifications. I mean, how much do you want to water it down? It’s not like they’ve won 5 straight titles. They won it once in 2003.

  2. Buddy says:

    @ Brian Hope:

Well Brian, there is no 5A or 6A classification in Pa. as yet. It has been brought up but there are some inherit problems with expanding the classes. There are several other schools in Suburban one that are close to NP size ( Pennsbury, Neshaminy to name a few), but NP seems to be your problem. Yes, they might have several loses this year, best chance for you to celebrate that will be their first game ( LaSalle). NP has been one of the larger schools in the district forever, but they have only been a powerhouse for about 10 years. So their 120+ roster is not why. It’s the coaching. It’s not NP’s fault that they changed their schedule several years ago. They shouldn’t be playing schools like Souderton & Quakertown. They should be playing the Neshaminy, Abington, Pennsbury etc. They used too, but the powers that be thought to change that. I predict NP MIGHT have ONE lose during the regular season, but I doubt it will be to Souderton or Pennridge ( but you never know, they are good squads). However, I don’t see them going terribly deep into the playoffs like they usually do, but I sure hope they prove me wrong! So……. go Knights!!!

  3. Brian Hope says:

I want to see North Penn lose a couple of games this year with their 120+ roster. Their should be a 5A or 6A schedule with the size of that school. With that many kids your going to find 22 good athletes. I predict 3-4 loses this year for North Penn. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Souderton or Pennridge on top in the Continental Conference both Souderton and Pennridge have nice squads this year.

  4. big man says:

Sepa. Ur a fool I told u bring ur scale an let’s put an end to this.

  5. SEPAGuru says:

    @warez

I absolutely agree. This years DBP team is just on a different level. It remains to be seen how they fare against their out of state opponents but they should go undefeated and win each game by a wide margin. The only teams that could really challenge DBP this year are STA, and DLS.

  6. MARK says:

HEY ALL LET JUST REMEMBER THAT IT KIDS PLAYING THESE GAMES LET WISH THEM ALL GOOD LUCK AND HEALTH

  7. Warez says:

SEPA … IF WOOD PLAYS Don Bosco , It will be over by the end of the 1ST Q .

  8. SEPAGuru says:

    @Warez

If Red Lion ever schedules Don Bosco, that game would be over before halftime.

  9. phillyboy says:

When the Delaware teams play teams from PA they always seem to play weaker teams. For example, for years Salesianum has beaten up on weaker PA teams. For once could Salesianum play Strath Haven or Ridley or some team like that. They always pick up interstate wins against cupcakes. Finally a DE team plays a quality PA team last year and what happened? Yeah, Red Lion got creamed by O’hara.

  10. Buddy says:

    so has this one

  11. eastbetterthanwest says:

Sepa give it up. Your getting old. P.S.scout.com is better without you.

  12. Warez says:

DAVE B >>>>> Please stop with the name calling .
My point is if Wood so Great then when they had the chance to play Red Lion they pass : WHEN ( people’s) leave , Wood will be a afterthought .
. If you know much ask AW why the didnt want to play RED Lion . AW HAD OPEN DATES POSTED ON THIS SITE . DAVE ASK THE COACH WOULD AW PLAY THEM NEXT YEAR OR THE YEAR AFTER . fyi ,,, I HAVE TWO BOYS PLAYING PA FOOTBALL

  13. davebrown says:

    warez
your making stuff up, like I said red lion didn’t want to see Wood this year. first your lie and say wood didn’t want to play them and after the board proofs that your story is BS. Now your talking about next year. Your a clown, DE football is really irrelevant. Go post on a Delaware site.

  14. threeplayers says:

Red Lion is a joke. Go and recruit all the players you want D.S. Aw would smoke them just like Cardinal Ohara did last year.

  15. Warez says:

Dog21 >>>> Please spare me with the proof talk .
Just ask AW Coach if Red Lion Tried to schedule them this year or not . Since you know so much about AW .
Better Yet ask the coach to play Red Lion Next year . I willing to bet they wont do it . Red will probably play Don Boco next year & more
teams from FLA & ohio … DONT FORGET TO BUY YOUR TICKETS FOR THE RED lion vs GOOD Council GAME .
Good Council has 17 D1 Player’s on it’s TEAM .Now go on a talk to the AW Coach and get then to schedule that game …. I Just saying 🙂

  16. Dog21 says:

Wares AW is not afraid to play anyone. They open up with the Preseason favorite to win the AAAA title. Then they turn around and play the AA Champ the next week in West catholic, who by the way could beat most AAAA teams in PA. I know for a fact, Devlin(Wood Coach), was trying to play other elite in state and out of state teams, but many would not play Wood. Especially the very good AAAA teams in PA. It makes sense-they know AW is very good this year and the last thing they want is to lose to a AAA team.
If you have proof that Wood did not want to play Red Lion, please share your proof. You cant can you?

OHara spanked them all over the field last year. And Wood beat OHara 24-7 in the Catholic League AAA Champ Game. And yes Wood, like Red Lion, is a whole year more experienced than last year as well.

  17. Warez says:

last year Red Lion team was mostly So and Freshmen with a 8 grade QB …But after beating Ohio 3rd ranked 54-18 last Night i now understand why AW didnt want to play them this year . By the way
Red Lion picked up 2 BCS players from Canada .Now they have 13 d 1 players on the team . I cant wait to see RedLion play Good Council @ the Uof D . At least Good Council wasnt afriad to play Red Lion . Im Just saying 🙂

  18. davebrown says:

    warez
stop it, Red Lion is a joke. Ohara destroyed them so we can only imagine what wood will do them. your make things up Wood was taking all comers this year infact a few big time successful SE pa team refused to play wood and that is factual information.

  19. SEPAGuru says:

    @Warez

Just a note about last year. COH beat RL 30-0. AW beat COH twice by a combined score of 72-41. I don’t think they didn’t want to play RL because they were scared.

  20. Warez says:

Let’s talk about some other teams ,cause im sick of hearing about how good wood is this year . This is the same team the didnt want to play Red Lion DE this year when they called .

  21. johnny mo says:

I haven’t been to any acc scrimages but i think their defense will be better then it was last year and last years d was pretty good. we have gb harkins colin mcdermit teddy airoldi returning at linbacker tad mcneely leading the line and noah gulyas rj and jalen as d backs all of them are tremendous athletes who contributed greatly last year. depth has always been a problem because we have a lot of two way players. this year on offense will most likely be the same as last year. we rotated about 7 wr so you couldn’t necessarily key on one person because they all can make plays colin is our premier rb and the line will need time to grow.

  22. bennifer says:

I was at the Wood scrimmage also. D. Peoples took 10 carries and turned them into over 300yds and 4 TD’s! WOW!!!! He’s the X-factor. I haven’t seen a kid dominate like that in a while. He was patient and had excellent burst and vision.
I am really looking fwd to that PCC match up wk one and ACC for the eastern conference finals.

  23. Dog21 says:

I was at the Wood CB West scrimmage last night as well. Wood scored at will every time they had the ball. It was a 63-0 shellacking, amd it could have been 100-0 but Wood went to a very vanilla offense. Word has it PCC was scouting last night. It was 28-0 before the end of the 1st Q. Desmon Peoples had 5-6 electric runs in the first Q alone. Their O-Line just pushed West D-Line all over the field. Their O line is bigger than last year and they have been conditioning since last year. Their QB looked sharp and Nate Smith looked very good. Wood’s team speed overall on offense and defense is much better than last year. Wood’s defense was flying all over the field. Their 2 cornerbacks and safety are very fast this year. They did not have that last year vs ACC.

So what does this tell us? Absolutely nothing, because CB West is not very good this year and they stink. Actually, I think their only win might be Hatboro Horsham this year.

Depth: Wood has tremendous players this year but I agree that they have a depth issue. I counted 45 players on their sideline. They have many of their guys going both ways and that could wear on them. When they play PCC next week on ESPN2, I expect Wood to play them very tough. Wood will have just as much talent as PCC, but the thing that PCC has that Wood does not have is depth. I am not sure but I was told PCC only has a few players that go both ways. That will be a huge advantage. I think Wood can win the game, but I would not be surprised if a team like PCC wears them down in the 4th Q becasue of their depth. If they stay healthy the whole year, there will be nothing stopping them from a rematch with ACC, and I predict a victory vs ACC. ACC is still the favorite, and rightfully so, but The Wood defense that ACC will see this year is nothing like the one they played last year. Until they play the game and Wood beats ACC, ACC deserves to be looked at as the favorite as they have earned it.

Interestingly, Wood could potentially open up the season at 1-1 or 0-2. After PCC, they come back against a very good West catholic team that would beat most AAA team in the state. Yet, I still expect a Wood vs ACC rematch.

  24. SEPAGuru says:

I was at the Wood-CB West scrimmage last night and have a couple notes about Wood/ACC.

    1. Wood’s team speed as a defense has greatly increased.

    2. Wood’s O Line got a tremendous push vs. a D Line that had an All State Pick according to PAFW (Dan Sergeyev) and a Chesapeake Bowl player (Anthony Ponenete)

    3. Wood’s depth is definitely a problem though. An injury here or there could definitely derail any aspirations.

  25. johnny mo says:

what if all of woods “stars” get injured huh? Its not impossible. Do you have depth at every position? You’ve got a long way to go before you can even think about a rematch with acc.

  26. fieldgoal says:

hey phillyboy nice cheap shot trying to undermine ACC’s blowout of Wood in the semifinal last year. Don’t want to hear your excuses about Wood injuries, fact of the matter is that ACC had injuries too, most prominent Connor Faust one of their best players on both sides of the ball who was out for the entire season, not to mention Shane McNeely their top LB who got injured early in the Wood game. Bottom line everybody knows ACC was the better team by a blowout, both the final score and overall stats (geez over 600 yds, ouch!) prove that! So, don’t count your chickens just yet, worry about the likelihood of an opening game loss to PCC instead of a potential Wood/ACC rematch which is months away!

  27. phillyboy says:

Wood is gonna cream ACC this year. ACC managed to get a title last year due a to good team coupled with Wood injuries. This year both teams are at their peak. Wood is loaded and ready to roll. Even got a key transfer from GW. Sometimes the rich get richer.

  28. Warez says:

GURU :: lIKE I SAID I REALLY DONT HAVE A Dog in this fight , but Win or Loss his a Great player .
    This a Team sport .

  29. SEPAGuru says:

    @Warez @eastbetterthenwest

We’ll see how unelite he is when they play ACC…

  30. Buddy says:

    @ billy:

Well now there you go billy, and you’re welcome.

  31. billy splain says:

I’m just glad all the other teams in AAA dont have to worry about playing, seems wood and acc have it all wrapped up…..saves me all those decisions which teams to cover

  32. Warez says:

SEPA GURU …..DREW IS THE 23RD Ranked Back in the Whole US , so what your saying is pure Thash ….. Please Stop your Maddness or stop calling yourself a GURU .

  33. Huck says:

I agree with SEPA Guru that D-East will be a good team, a D-1 4A playoff team, but in the end not a threat to get out of D-1, or anywhere close to Hershey.

  34. eastbetterthanwest says:

lol this is ridiculous first he cant run a 4.4 which know is false because he was timed electronically at rutgers by their Head Coach, Now since we have destroyed that argument he’s not 210? lol Sepa I dont know what it is with you and the Harris kid but frankly its getting kinda weird right now. Hey Halle Berry might have a mole on her face that dont mean she aint fine. Stop pointing out the kid’s faults and celebrate his strengths which are good for the state of Pa and Pa high school football.

  35. big man says:

its hype down south .i lived in florida .the football is diffrent not better.an that is why florida teams collage teams are coming out of florida becaue the pool is watered down pull up the rosters an look for your self. take the 22 starters an look were their from an the roaster.then tell me the percentage ok thats all im saying.fyi thats why florida state an miami offered drew harris in writing

  36. big man says:

@ sepag bring your scale an i can arrange that meeting an dont bring any money we will do it for fun . then i just want you to say the big man was write thats all i want.an also thats why football is a team sport it takes a team to win not just one player.

  37. SEPAGuru says:

    @eastbetterthanwest
Great maybe he’ll get an offer from them…

    @big man
He is not close to the vicinity of 210. Think about 15 pounds lighter.

Let me clarify for everyone. I think he is a very good football player but he does not by any means make D-Town East one of the top 4A teams in the state because frankly they aren’t. When D-Town East loses to ACC and then makes the playoffs and gets their ass whooped in the 2nd or 3rd round, come on back here and man up.

  38. Huck says:

    Big man, slow-up, buddy.

I’m proud of the football we play in PA, but PA does not putout better players than any other state. In fact, it’s not even close when you consider Florida and Texas.

  39. big man says:

@sepaguru drew harris has 4.4 speed i was there at Rutgers when he did it. it was electronically timed u cant beat that for speed not to many 6 ‘1 210 lb running that in high school.time will tell about all game dte vs acc they have a date time will tell.let the young man play the game.dont down any kid its bad for pa football in a whole. pa puts out better football players then any state . an side bar acc qb an dte rb are friend an thats a fact.

  40. eastbetterthanwest says:

Top teams in Pa are Lasalle, North Penn(even though lasalle owns them),Central Catholic and Downingtown East

  41. eastbetterthanwest says:

SepaGuru yes we will see how unelite his speed is this year as he rolls up 6,000 yds in his career and over 65 td’s. East was in that game until the end with the backup tailback who weighed 110lbs soaking wet. Also thought you should know since you think you KNOW something his speed was timed electronically timed at Rutgers 4.45. And your buddy Nick Saban sent him a hand written letter which I saw personally. Like I said when East kicks Acc in the tail dont run and hide be a man and come back on here with your tail behind your legs and man up.

  42. phillyboy says:

I’m tired of hearing people whine about the supposed need to separate the public and private schools for the playoffs. Dude, at the AAAA level since 1988 a private school has won the state title only 5 times. PCC has won 3, Erie Cathedral Prep once and LaSalle once. That’s 5 titles out of 23 years. Wow!! Are you kidding me? If anything, they need to learn how to recruit better. Maybe Don Bosco Prep could give them a clinc. The reigning AAAA champ is North Allegheny (a public school). This notion that the private teams dominate is a joke. Again I say, since 1988 It’s Public 18, Private 5. Nuff said.

  43. SEPAGuru says:

    @eastbetterthanwest
As I recall, ACC was leading 24-7 and let you guys back into the game. To be honest, with the way ACC dominated the line of scrimmage, it didn’t matter who you had back there. We will absolutely see how unelite his speed is come the season.

  44. eastbetterthanwest says:

Terry lighten up buddy. In a scrimmage it usually is 10 and 10 and then a live half. You guys didn’t score once and afer 7 plays of driving the ball down your throat REPEATEDLY we gave the ball back . That is why I said the mercy rule was in effect. If our secondary was so bad how come you guys didn’t score?

  45. Joe says:

    Ron,

I didn’t say that smashmouth football doesn’t EVER work. Reread my post. I said that smashmouth football DOESN’T ALWAYS work. In Abington Height’s case they have never won a state playoff game with the offense and schemes that they run, and with the coaching they have. It would be helpful to have some sort of passing game in their arsenal. Hey, but I’m not a D2 guy so as far as I’m concerned I hope AH doesn’t change a thing but I would think that AH may realize what they have been doing is great for D2 competition but state play is a whole different ballgame.

  46. mark says:

you talk about d2 weak aaaa teams well come up and play valley view lakeland riverside and dunmore and see how beat up you are from the aa and a teams in d2

  47. Terry says:

eastbetterthanwest, yes you did you scored on the second play. but a football game consists of 4 downs to get 10 yards to continue a series. you scored 4 TD’s. 2 in 20 plays with your first group. and you did no successfully get 10 yards every four plays. I saw Harris standing behind the Offense I realize he didnt play nor was I saying that we would beat you, but to say you scored everytime you touched the ball was ridiculous. In fact other than that speed sweep you did not run the ball well at all with your first group. Harris makes up for some of that but when there is nowhere to go there is nowhere to go. wow I dont know much about ACC other than they have a good QB but I hope they beat you guys, your a very arrogant guy. I would be worried about your secondary they couldnt cover anybody.

  48. Ron says:

    Joe,
What type of offense did AAAA Champion North Allegheny run? I’ll help you, it was a multiple formation downhill running attack. Very similar to the offense Abington Heights runs. Should they update their offense and coaching staff too?

  49. eastbetterthanwest says:

Hey Terry you better watch the film my friend our first O scored on every posession and our first d completely shut you guys out. We wouldn’t schedule the mules because the Mules aren’t up to snuff. And terry our #1 player sat out!!!

  50. Terry says:

Hey eastbetterthanwest I was at the scrimmage and you did score everytime you touched the ball. You guys were head and shoulder better than us and would have beat us soundly in a real game but by no means did you score everytime you touched the ball. The WR #3 scored on that nice jet sweep the Te scored on that nice stiff arm as well. I think the 1’s put up another a score as well. I no nothing about ACC but you did not score every time you touched the ball, in fact your Offensive Line was extremely small compared to ours

  51. eastbetterthanwest says:

Hey Sepa, Harris didn’t play in that game and east was in the game til the end. I know what you said about elite speed I just think your wrong. Lets see how unelite his speed is when he is running by Acc on Sept 3.

  52. johnny mo says:

How about we all just settle down for once? ok? now how about some predictions for the upcoming games? I say acc beats deast by a touchdown two great teams led by great players. nosovitch to gulyas for at least three tds nos with maybe 1 rushing.

  53. Joe says:

    Gus,

I suggest that instead of whining and making excuses build your program to compete with the best. It can be done. Two of the four state titles were won by public schools last year. Were you complaining when Berwick and Mt. Carmel were winning state titles annually? Oh, and by the way, were you aware that prior to last year the last private school to win a state title in AAA was in 1998, 12 years ago (ACC). Doesn’t look like private school domination to me. I don’t remember Selinsgrove whining about Allentown Central Catholic or Archbishop Wood two years ago. Truth of the matter is that the Abington Heights program is just not a state caliber player at this time. If they want to compete statewide they need to upgrade their schedule playing at least a game a year out of district instead of beating up weak D2 competition. Give the kids the experience what it will be like when statewide playoffs start. Come down to D11, D1 or D12. Although Abington Heights does play D2 AAAA teams we all know that D2 AAAA football is very weak and it does AH no good. Abington Heights just is not ready for statewide competition when interdistrict play begins. They need to upgrade the offense and passing game. The difference in offensive schemes between AH and ACC last year was like night and day. Smashmouth football does not always work outside of D2. They need to upgrade their coaching. The kids are plenty tough and as good as any around but they need the program to step it up for them. AH can be successful statewide players under the right circumstances. The private school excuse is just that, an excuse.

  54. James says:

Dan, help me understand why if your team is so good, that you feel to respond like you do. Let it go and the game results will take care of everything else. it’s annoying and sophmoric.

  55. DAN says:

    Hey eastbetter than west –

That’s great to hear. We had a great scrimmage yesterday as well. Just make sure the bus doesn’t get lost coming up here. A forfeit victory just wouldn’t feel the same.

  56. Buddy says:

    @ eastbetterthanwest:

I’m saying you’ll have to eat those words about LaSalle owning NP after 9/3. Fear not, I’ll be here to remind you! By-the-way, NP has been a large school FOREVER, but they have only been a powerhouse for the last 11 years. So it’s the coaching , not the size.

  57. threeplayers says:

Watched Cardinal O’Hara yesterday. They are loaded

  58. Gus says:

Dan, great, enjoy your season, the whole world will be watching and rooting for ACC on 12/16. The rest of us will watch our public school teams who have to play with the kids who live in our district.

  59. eastbetterthanwest says:

Dan I was at Downingtown East scrimmage td everytime we touched the ball not often you mercy rule teams in a scrimmage.See you on Sept 3 in Allentown!

  60. SEPAGuru says:

Oh my god. I never said he wasn’t talented, all I said was that he doesn’t have elite speed which is true. It’s sad that you can’t read and must resort to assuming things to supplement your argument.

I’m not sure what my excuse will be, because to my knowledge, that 2011 version of the game has yet to occur.
    http://www.dailylocal.com/articles/2010/09/05/sports/srv0000009287740.txt?viewmode=fullstory
Notice several important items. Nosovitch accounted for over 350 yards of offense by himself. East had 187 as a team. Lauletta, Kroft, Robles are all gone. ACC had 72 plays to East’s 43 plays.

  61. DAN says:

    Gus –

Just got back from Central Catholic’s first scrimmage. Very first play of the game – Nosovitch to Gulyas for a 75 yard touchdown. WE ARE IN MID SEASON FORM!!!!! Like I said, tune in on December 16th around 10pm on PCN.

  62. Gus says:

Public and Private schools, personally, I have no issues with the kids/athletes. There is an inherent difference when a school can pull kids(not using recruiting) from another school. I watched our team last year get crushed by ACC. AH had a great team and we had to draw our kids from our district. ACC made us look like it was our first football game. Many factors skew the results for wins and losses. Love to see winners who are humble and honest. Good luck to all those seniors who might be playing their last football game and to those moving on to play in college.

  63. Suburban Fan says:

    ANTS GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.
THERE ARE OVER 500 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN PA OUTSIDE OF PHILADELPHIA. I WAS REFERRING TO ALL THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT ARE OUTSIDE OF PHILLY – PIAA DISTRICT ONE AND BEYOND. FORGET DISTRICT XII (PHILA. PUBLIC AND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS). THEY ARE IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN PERMITTED TO JOIN THE P.I.A.A. EITHER FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ORGANIZATION YOU JOIN OR SIMPLY STAY OUT. PHILA. PUBLIC AND PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS HAVE ALWAYS MARCHED TO THEIR OWN BEAT AND OUT OF STEP WITH THE REST OF PENNSYLVANIA.

  64. eastbetterthanwest says:

North Penn will always be in the mix because and only because of the sheer size of their school. LaSalle owns them and will continue to. Neshaminy perennial powerhouse, DTE will be there as well.

  65. eastbetterthanwest says:

Sepa are you serious? Only in your world are Va Tech,Notre Dame, PSU and Miami not “elite” thats just your way of trying to hate on this kid. Its sad that you cant just appreciate a true talent instead of looking for flaws to justify your opinion.Back to the topic when East beats ACC and THEY will beat them what will the excuse be then?

  66. Ants says:

    Suburban Fan

Here is why your argument is bogus…and you’re very misinformed…any student in the Philly public school system can enroll at any Phily high school…all they have to do is be able to get there…whats the difference?

  67. kevin says:

    Well said suburban fan.

  68. Suburban Fan says:

ONE CANNOT GIVE AN HONEST ASSESSMENT OF WHICH IS THE BEST TEAM IN EASTERN PA AS LONG AS THE PUBLIC AND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ARE PLACED ON THE SAME LIST. THERE SHOULD BE SEPARATE CLASSIFICATIONS FOR THEM LIKE IN NEW JERSEY. THEY HAVE DIFFERENT RULES CONCERNING GEOGRAPHIC ENROLLMENT. DOES LaSALLE HAVE ENROLLMENT BOUNDARIES? PUBLIC SCHOOLS DO.
NORTH PENN SHOULD ALSO BE DIVIDED INTO TWO HIGH SCHOOLS AS THEY ARE MUCH LARGER IN ENROLLMENT THAN ANY MEMBER OF THEIR SUBURBAN ONE COLONIAL LEAGUE. FOOTBALL IS A GAME WHERE NUMBERS OF PLAYERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO CONTINUED SUCCESS. LOOK AT THE CENTRAL BUCKS SCHOOL DISTRICT WHICH HAS THREE HIGH SCHOOLS. WHICH DISTRICT, NORTH PENN OR CENTRAL BUCKS IS MORE BENIFICIAL TO ITS STUDENT/ATHLETES IN AFFORDING THEM THE OPPORTUNITY OF PARTICIPATION. IS BEING #1 THAT IMPORTANT? I REST MY CASE.

  69. Joe says:

My top picks in AAA and AAAA are as follows:

AAAA – Pittsburgh Central Catholic (Western Bracket) and LaSalle (Eastern Bracket). LaSalle champion.

AAA – Bishop McDevitt (Western Bracket) and Allentown Central Catholic (Eastern Bracket). ACC champion.

  70. Gus says:

Dan, good luck this year. See you in church! So that team has been in the same grade in the same elementary catholic school all those years and all those kids on the team now are practicing Catholics too right? If that’s the case, wow, then we all owe you an apology, but we all know better. God’s watching you and Don Bosco 🙂

  71. kevin says:

@mio, does tamaqua actually have a team this year? They’re picked 6th in the anthercite league this year. I am a 2003 graduate of tamaqua and my cousin is one of the lineman coaches. They lost quite a few good players. I don’t really see them winning the D11 2-a title this year.

  72. SEPAGuru says:

    @Warez

I understand that he has offers. All I’m saying is that there’s a reason he doesn’t have offers from those programs…

    @Eastbetterthanwest
Over the last decade, Alabama, Florida, USC and Oklahoma would definitely be 4 of the top 5 elite programs… Do the research. Also you can say they only lost by 9 points but even Coach Matta said they got manhandled and the score was much better than the actual game. Besides, North Penn are the only words that need to be said. Top 4A team in Eastern PA? Yeah right.

  73. DAN says:

    Hey Gus –

Our guys went to catholic grade schools all their lives and played CYO all the way up to high school. I don’t want to hear your crap about recruiting either. I’ll tell you what. Tune in on December 16th on the PCN channel around 10pm and I’ll be waving to you from the stands after we hoist the state championship trophy up again as AAA State Champs!!!!

  74. Mio says:

I can’t say much about top in the East, but watch for Tamaqua to make a run at the D11 title.

  75. North Penn guy says:

IMO Wood is the best team on the eastern side of the state this year and perhaps the entire state. My knights will be a close second. Of course health is always a key factor. D.Peoples N.Smith, B.Peoples, Benji and U.Jordan will be ready for ACC this year.
Lets hope that all players remain healthy and we get an opportunity to crown a true champion. Remember with out Peoples and company it was a tie game at half time last year.

  76. Brian Hope says:

    Dog21,

I to know the coaches at Wood very well, I’ve been following local HS football for the past 40 years. Wood has a tremendous coaching staff and I’m not against recruiting, I am a true conservative and believe in school choice just as much as the next person even if it is a disadvantage to the public schools. But dont tell me catholic schools dont recruit, my father who is now 81 years old informed me it been going on since the 1940’s were he played in the Philly HS program.

I agree with David Mika its time to get back on track.

  77. Dog21 says:

It is High School Football. Upsets occur all the time. It would surprise me if ACC and Wood do not meet again, but I would not be shocked if one of them was upset. There are a bunch of good teams out there for sure. It is a long season and injuries happen etc.. The best team does not always win.

  78. bert says:

    Bert
All you guys do is argue who is better, Wood or ACC, or who is going to win the post-season match-up between those teams. Contrary to what you think, there are some pretty good teams in AAA in District 2 and 3, and and some good ones in AA in District 2 and 4. The whole world doesn’t revolve around these two teams. It would be a shame if that dream match-up doesn’t occur due to an upset in the first round.

  79. Dog21 says:

    Mike
    Well Said.

    Brian Hope,
If you are going to make a post and say Wood recruited, please tell the Board the exactly the information that you have that shows they recruited. I know this team very well. They DID NOT go and Recruit anyone. Des Peoples father called Devlin a year ago and asked if Desmon switched to Wood, would Coach Devlin give him a fair shot. What the heck is Devlin going to say?? Uh, no thanks Mr Peoples but we do not want one of the most dynamic players in the area. Nate Smith’s family saw what was going on at Wood and called for the same reason. On a roster of 50+, 4 kids on that entire team did not come from a catholic feeder school. When you build a good program, kids from the area want to come and play for your team. Especially since the Wood coaches do an unbelievable job of exposing their players to college coaches.

Stop making it sound like in the Off- season the Wood coaches sit around a table with a whiteboard and target great players from other teams. It’s nonsense and it is ridiculous. In the 90’s when Wood sucked every year, you never heard a peep from whiners like you. Now they are good and kids want to play for them and there is nothing wrong with that.

Dont tell me Public schools dont recruit either. My son is a Lax player in the Buck area. He attends the local Catholic grade school as an 8th grader. He is constantly being hounded by a local Central Bucks HS team to attend their HS for LAX and to NOT go to Wood for Lax because their Lax program is not that good. Two of his friends are also very good players and they will most likely go the the Public HS for Lax because it is a good program and the coaches get kids into college. I do not have a problem with that if that is the best thing for the kid’s future.

    So it works both ways!

  80. eastbetterthanwest says:

Sepa your argument is garbage. Oklahoma,USC and Bama are not the only elite programs as you seem to think. Drew will rush for 2,000-2,500 yards this year behind a very good o-line. Downingtown east will rock ACC in the opener.Drew’s speed has ever been an issue, btw he didn’t run track this year where are you getting your info? Funny how the haters come out the woodwork.

  81. David Mika says:

I’m going to say this one more time. You are getting away from the topic. Enough already about recruiting and stuff. Thanks!

  82. Mike Souders says:

Let me start off by saying that I am a grad, former assistant coach and fan of Souderton HS.

    1. I hope all the majority of the people reading this can sort throught the BS being written. Most fans not but most are giving Allentown Central Catholic and Archbishop Wood terrible names. I actually have some knowledge of both coaching staff’s and I can tell you this. They BOTH respect each other very much. They are not thinking about each other because thats not how they go to each other last year. I’m sure that ABW is worrying about PCC and ACC is worrying about DTE. They are both class act coaching staff;s who respect each other and would not promote the nonsense being written by these ignorant people.

    2. All the recruiting BS is nonsense. Do catholic schools get kids yes they do but to compare them to Don Bosco and Bergen is simply nonsense. They recruit from a 4 state radius that is more of a territory than some D3 programs. There were periods where both ACC and ABW were not succesful, did anybody complain then? Just beat them work harder its that simple.

Aww they cherry pick they do this that and the other thing grow up. Read a morning call article about ACC there are about a dozen written about that team last year being home grown through the CYO system. As far as ABW have they gotten kids? yeah but guess what SUCCESS recruits itself. Win and and kids will come to your school as well yes even the publics because happens just as much there! and I’m a public school guy

  83. Warez says:

    SEPA GURU

He’s fast enough for over 20 offer’s . He’s a big back not a scatback . I guess you need something to say , but it sounds like sour grapes to me .

  84. SEPAGuru says:

    @Warez
The illiteracy continues. All I said was that Drew Harris lacks elite speed which is a completely true statement. He certainly has other factors like the great balance and power that I pointed out but he doesn’t have that elite speed. That’s all.

  85. johnny mo says:

obviously other people will continue to be ignorant and keep saying acc recruits. you honestly don’t know the truth and say nothing on how athletes like allens tajmire flood can transfer to freedom without any complaints but as soon as catholic school has success they get bashed for supposedly recruiting.

  86. Gus says:

Dan, it’s guys like you that will eventually have the Catholic Schools separated. Bosco or Bergen Catholic… are the same as ACC. Cherry Picking kids and pretending they are all good catholic boys who just happened to wind up on the same team. Go back to your fantasy world and pretend all you want.

  87. Warez says:

SEPA GURU , I DONT HAVE A DOG IN THIS FIGHT , BUT IT SOUNDS TO ME THE YOURE TRYING TO BASH A GREAT FOOTBALL PLAYER & Hard worker . Drew Harris has over 20 collage offers . He’s fast enough to get those offers and be ranked 23 in the nation . Please stop BASHING a PA Football
    player’s .

    Thanks

  88. Brian Hope says:

    Buddy,
Your right about N Penn its hard to tell what they have with 120+ kids showing up for 2-a-days. They will always be a force to contend with.

  89. SEPAGuru says:

    @eastbetterthanwest
I’ve actually seen Drew Harris in action many times and I can tell he’s is a nice power back with great balance but far from elite speed. You can submit whatever 40 yd time you want, but the track doesn’t lie. Additionally, I’m always amazed at the illiteracy of people posting on forums. I stated he didn’t have offers from Bama, Florida, Oklahoma or USC (Southern Cal). That happens to be a true statement.

I also have two words for you. North Penn. Remember the score midway through the second quarter? 35-3 I believe? I’m not a hater, I simply see flaws in arguing D-Town East as one of the top 4A schools in the state.

  90. DAN says:

    Hey Gus –

The only Bosco I know is the chocolate drink. And as far as Bergen Catholic goes we don’t deal with those crappy jersey schools. Like I said earlier today we ARE and will continue to be the NUMBER 1 team in the state. CASE CLOSED!

  91. Buddy says:

You’re right, Mercer has graduated. Heard differently from an erroneous source. NP may not dominate this year. That makes the Souderton & Pennridge games w/ NP potentially very interesting, unless Beck has some “sleepers” hidden somewhere, which he might. Could be , by NP standards, a long year.

  92. Gus says:

To Buddy: Wyoming Valley West plays Whitehall in AAAA sub regional championship. To Dan: If ACC’s that good, go play Bosco or Bergen Catholic… That is who you should be playing anyway to put things in perspective.

  93. DAN says:

Hey Steve be careful what you wish for. Allentown Central Catholic is WITHOUT A DOUBT! the number 1 team in 3A this year. Nosovitch is overrated huh? Well wait till we play you guys this year. That is if you get that far. Hey how are all your recruits from the southern states that you recruited doing? What can’t you get guys from your own area? I hate to think what’s going to happen this year when we play each other. Nosovitch might hang 1,000 yards on you this time.

  94. mel says:

west catholic is still the best until…

    AA 2010 state champs

  95. Brian Hope says:

Buddy, Brandon Mercer was a senior last year, been watching him since pop warner football where he was great.

We’ll see with Souderton & Pennridge, they both have good looking squads this year. It should make for a fun and exciting year.

  96. Huck says:

I’m pretty sure that NP’s Brandon Mercer (Not Murcer) was a senior last year. Well, at least he should have been. He went to West Cath. as a freshman and that class graduated last year.

  97. Buddy says:

    @ Brian Hope:

Not sure how Souderton & Pennridge got in your top 5, but I agree with the rest of your picks. Souderton is the better of the two ( Pennridge that is), but not a top 5 in the East. NP did loose alot, but the QB is back, although not the best they have had in recent years, plus the speedster (RB) Brandom Murcer is back. The thing with NP is that they don’t rebuild, they just re-load. The only game NP might lose is the first game ( LaSalle). They SHOULDN’T lose again ’til the playoffs. Their schedule isn’t as tough as it was several years ago. Teams that need to be mentioned in the top 5 ( Quad A only) from East are:

    LaSalle
    Cumberland Valley
    Neshaminy
    North Penn
    Liberty
    Easton
    D-town East
    CR South
    Ridley
    Pennsbury
Whitehall…… just to name a few

Not sure what order you want to put these, I believe the top 4 mentioned are pretty accurate, the rest is anyone’s quess. First week of season sees NP @ LaSalle, so that might shake up the top 5. It all starts in three weeks fans! Bring it on!

  98. Ken says:

I personally beleive that Mt. Carmel will be the Danville of 2010. Showed alot of character in 2010, lost few starters and has alot of athleticism and size. Should be an interesting year for MCA.
West Catholic is probably still the team to beat in the east and N. Schuylkill will be dangerous.
I’m not sure about the frontrunners in Dist 2 & 3. From what I’ve been hearing, Lakeland is up for a run at Districts and Lancaster Cath. and Wyomissing are threats in Dist.3

  99. eastbetterthanwest says:

To Sepa obviously you have never seen Drew Harris in person because he can and will and has run 4.4 40’s. As far as your other misinformation he has gotten written offers from the most elite schools in the nation.Va Tech, PSU, Miami, SC, FSU and NOTRE DAME! You seem like a hater. So I got two words for you STOP HATING!And he plays in 4A football!

  100. eastbetterthanwest says:

To george washington if you are an Acc parent or fan you have embarrassed them and yourself. The fact is Pa should have 5A football for catholics and schools like North Penn with extra large student bodies. The fact is catholic schools recruit and cherry pick from different school districts.

  101. Jiimy says:

Just curious, why is Bethlehem Liberty getting such high rankings? I know that they will have a pretty quick backfield returning for action along with a very capable quarterback, but they also play in a league (LVC) with some other solid AAAA teams such as Parkland, Whitehall, Easton, Freedom, etc…that could very well compete for these accolades.

  102. Brian Hope says:

For the AAAA Schools this year I would have to go with:

    1. LaSalle
    2. Liberty
    3. Pennridge
    4. Souderton
    5. North Penn

North Penn lost a lot of great kids last year. I believe they will lose a couple of games.

  103. David Mika says:

We have gotten away from our topic, who are the top teams in Eastern PA this year? Look forward to your post!

  104. george washington says:

i love the people that claim allentown central catholic recruits. this is such an old issue. enough is enough. what more do people need to read or see for themselves.this group has been together for years. some were in the little vikes program. most are good buddies on and off the field. acc rejected players who wanted to transfer in to the school and program.

acc dresses a ton of kids. most who never see the feild. yet they have the fortitude to stick with a winning program. most players in high school never see the field, yet they continue to stick with it. the acc program sets their student up to be productive members in our screwed up society.

to all my govt run school fans who claim the catholic schools recruit, i would ask you to support school choice, not just with failing govt run schools , but with all schools.

the democrats/UNIONS LOVE choice when it comes to killing babies, but no choice for your kids education? huh?

  105. Don says:

Mike, no, these great athletes just happen to be on the same team? Come On man, the parents know that if they can afford it, to get their kids into Catholic sschools and move through the system. It’s possible they could have a great team, but really?

  106. bert says:

    Joe,
ACC dressed 50 players last year, more than most AA schools and right up there with most triple AAA schools, outside of the Philly area anyway.

  107. Brian Hope says:

I agree with Don, catholic schools do cherry pick just look at Wood this year. Wood probably has the best team in AAA history coming up this year due to recruiting. It’s wrong and unfair to the public schools. Dont get me wrong Wood has a an excellent coaching staff but they do know how to bring in the best kids and promise them the world. There needs to be more restrictions in the recruiting process. I also have seen this go on since the 1970’s.

  108. Joe says:

    Mike,

You are absolutely on target with your post about Allentown Central Catholic. Most people outside of the Allentown area assume that this ACC team is built on “recruits” and transfers. As you correctly stated they have been together since “Little Vikings” (middle school) and knowledgeable local football people saw this group coming for years. Ironically, Nosovitch was not the QB on some of those teams (he was the starting safety). They did turn away several senior transfers who became all conference performers on other local teams the past few seasons. The one transfer on their roster was an underclassman from Bethlehem Catholic. This was a special group and because ACC is a AA school (they dress about 35 players) playing in a AAAA conference and competing in PIAA AAA classification this caliber of team is not ongoing. ACC has won 3 state titles but they do have down years. Next season ACC will not be a state championship threat. They will be respectable but nowhere near the caliber of this recent group.

  109. Mike says:

I live in Allentown and I cannot comment on any schools other than ACC not sure about beca. I am a Whitehall fan but I can tell you none of the kids on the ACC team were recruited. I think they had one transfer a Kid from Bethlehem Catholic whose family moved from Bethlehem to Allentown. I am in no way an ACC fan but I believe most of those kids came from 3 Catholic Elementary Schools, St. Thomas, Cathedral, and St. Joe, with a few other catholic elementary schools sprinkled in. I only say this or post because everyone in the Lehigh Valley saw this team coming since the time they were in 6th or 7th Grade. I know for a fact 2 kids tried to transfer to ACC before last season and they were not admitted. I hope we beat the heck out of them this year and I would love nothing more than cry recruiting because they have beaten us the last two years but it simply isn’t the case with them.

  110. Don says:

My point is for the msot part Catholic Schools have great teams and records. It also has nothing to do with the kids, good for them, I’d love to see them all move on to college ball. The problem is Catholic Schools recruit, so saying transferring is disingenuous. It is run like a business and public schools are at a huge disadvantage. They play with the kids who live in that district.

  111. Don says:

Nice try Henry, all Catholic School cherry pick kids. Are you telling me all these great Athlete are good Caholic boys wanting a religous education. It’s not transferring, its a system. I’ve been watching this happen since 1976. I might know a little bit more than you think.

  112. Brian Hope says:

For the QUAD A teams North Penn is always tough but keep an eye on Pennridge, they have most of their starters back on defense and their whole offensive line is back with a quick backfield. They have a lot of depth on both sides of the ball.

  113. Henry says:

    Don

You have no idea what you are talking about. By making that statement you are categorizing all catholic schools. I am not going to throw mud at the schools I know to recruit. But ACC last year and this year were kids who have been playing together since the feeder school system. Don Bosco draws from 4 states. Trust me in some area’s of the state transferring happens just as much at publics as it does private.

  114. SEPAGuru says:

    @Don

I absolutely agree with you. Not sure if you’re talking about SJP too though because it’s one of the schools in this area that goes out of its way to challenge tough opponents.
2010 – St Peters Prep (NJ), North Penn
2009 – McKeesport, St Peters Prep (NJ), North Penn
2008 – Parkland, Saint Anthonys (NY)
2007 – NP, Don Bosco Prep (NJ)
2006 – Neshaminy, Don Bosco Prep (NJ), Hillard Davidson (OH)
2005 – Neshaminy, St. Ignatius (OH), Gilman (MD)
2004 – Pittsburgh Central Catholic, St. Ignatius (OH), Poly Prep Country Day (NY)

That’s a damn tough schedule for any team. They play some of the top private and public schools in the nation and then go play a pretty tough league schedule with Lasalle, Roman Catholic, Judge, Wood. There’s simply no reason to not be impressed with SJP’s records.

  115. Don says:

Not impressed with Catholic School records, have been watching Don Bosco since the mid 70’s. When you cherry pick kids and then play against a public school team that does not have that advantage, then you’re just fooling yourself. Go Play Don Bosco or Bergen Catholic… then you’ll see what it’s like to be a public school playing a catholic school. Nothing against the kids, but it’s apples and oranges

  116. kevin says:

U guys need to stop hating on acc and nosovitch. Clearly they won it all last year! Clearly if ur complaining about one person not being available for a game, what does that tell you?

  117. Chuck Lewis says:

FYI ! Looks like the PCC/Wood game will be televised by ESPN2 or ESPNU. I also read that this game and the Gateway/McDevitt has been pushed back a day to Sunday. Not sure if that is accurate.

  118. SEPAGuru says:

    @Reggie White
you’re bringing up points that you can’t win.
There’s something that is far more legitimate than a unverified 40 time and that would be a 100m track time that he did actually run… Additionally, PCC is more than likely most people’s #1 in the state. So flip flopping would the incorrect word…

I’m not a Wood supporter but get it straight. This year they play a decent schedule and I don’t care what team you are, playing the #1 PA and #26 USA PCC, as well as the Defending AA Champs WC, in addition to SJP who didn’t have a single losing season in the past 15 years besides last year due to a rookie coach? You make their schedule sound incredibly weak when in reality, you look just based on last year to judge how “good” a program really is. You do need to stop embarrassing yourself.

  119. David Mika says:

    @Buddy

The Pre-Season teams will be released on August 5th.

The “Players to Watch” list will be released on Aug. 15th.

The Pre-Season Super 10 Rankings will be released starting Aug. 24th with team # 10. Each day we will release a new team.
Find out who is the number one team in the Big School and Small School Rankings on Sept. 2nd!

  120. Buddy says:

    @ Mika:

So gentlemen, when do you start YOUR countdown?

  121. Reggie White says:

    To SEPA Guru:

You are flip flopping like a fish. First you want me to respect Rivals ranking of PCC as #1 that Wood will face then you tell me to not respect Rivals ranking of DTE back Harris 40 time? So I guess like your partner Dog 21, what ever pushes Wood front and center is what should be taken as fact. “Wood would have won with Peoples.” “Wood has 18 D-1 kids.” “Wood has a secret weapon in Benji and Smith.” Get real. Here is the reality – the schedule does not lie –
    Quakertown 4-8
    Chestnut Hill 4-6
    Conwell Egan 1-9
St. Joe’s Prep 3-7 & out played you losing 21-20
    Haverford School 5-6
    Archbishop Carroll 4-6
    Bonner 5-5
Archbishop Carroll 4-6 you get two cracks at them!
OHara was the only decent team you played and the 2nd time they trimmed you down to a 24-7 game.

Wow, it is truly ugly when you see it in print! I would be embarrassed to pound my chest after beating up teams like Egan. You didn’t play a single team with a winning record during the regular season! Hahahaha I need to stop because I think you guys can see it as clear as I do.

  122. Don says:

Catholic Schools need to be separated. Since they cherry pick kids, it’s a clear disadvantage. In NJ they play agaisnt each othe in the regular season, then play against other catholic shools in the playoffs.

  123. SEPAGuru says:

Just to clarify, I meant PCC as the #1 team in the state and #26 in the nation.

  124. SEPAGuru says:

    @Reggie White
FYI West Catholic is an AA catholic league school. They more than likely would have smacked around most 3A/4A schools and would have given ACC a good game.
Also playing the number one team and #26 team in the nation according to Rivals would definitely qualify as “real” football and a beefed up schedule…

Just a question – Why do people think D-Town East is going to be so good? Their RB is decent but his lack of elite speed is why he doesn’t have offers from ‘Bama, Florida, Oklahoma or SC… Don’t buy that 4.47(Rivals) or 10.89(Scout) BS, he’s a kid who runs around high 11’s in the 100(Milesplit). The track doesn’t lie. Additionally, they’re replacing their starting QB, TE, WR, DB who were all good players.

  125. Joe says:

    Dog21,

The past? Who is the CURRENT defending Pennsylvania AAA State Champion? Also, those 6 or 7 D1 recruits that Wood fans constantly refer to were on the Wood roster last December and we all know how that turned out. Credentials and reputations don’t win championships. Need to prove it on the field and Wood has not done that in the big state games. When/If Wood wins the big one I’ll be the first to congratulate them. It’s great to have teams the caliber of Allentown Central Catholic, Archbishop Wood and Bishop McDevitt likely headed to a showdown in December.

  126. Buddy says:

    @ Grizzled:

History. Although I’m not sure if that’s a very good criteria for a favorable ranking. Works w/ NP ( & a few other schools) because they are so big & well coached. Liberty is a large school also. I think Easton, & possibly Whitehall, will be better this year. Keep an eye on Liberty’s rival – Freedom also.

  127. Grizzled Vet says:

I am not being sarcastic when I ask this, but I have seen Liberty mentioned a couple of times on here and I’m not sure why. Yes they have good skill kids back, but they lost some guys on the line and a lot of depth at linebacker. I’m not sure they are even the the best 4A school in their league, much less top 5 in the East. Can anyone let me know why you feel they are a top 5 team?

  128. Dog21 says:

    Joe
Keep living in the past. It doesn’t mean anything. If ACC actually makes it to the Eastern Final, they are going down this year.

  129. Joe says:

You Wood fans make me laugh. I don’t ever think I’ve seen a program that has not won anything talk so much. Wood did finally beef their schedule up but they have a very easy path to the state semifinals. I don’t think ACC will be shaking in their boots come December.

  130. Dog21 says:

    Reggie White
After the Sept 3rd game at PCC, will you come on this board and admit you are wrong? Or will you hide?

My prediction is that Wood vs PCC will be very a very close game with Wood winning at the end. If I am wrong I will eat crow as well. Deal?

    By the way:
Thomas Jefferson 08 Team-Juggernaut and would have crushed any team in any classification that year, including ACC.

Selinsgrove- Yes they beat Wood 28-0, but If I recall did Selinsgrove not beat ACC soundly as well to get to the semifinal?

Selinsgrove-You said in your post that Wood got beat by better coaching in 2010 by Selinsgrove. Last time I looked Wood beat the Seals in 2008 and the Seals had the same coaching staff and so did Wood. I guess when Wood beat them 14-7 to advance to the Finals the Seals coaching staff all of a sudden stinks? You cant have it both ways.

I would agree Wood’s schedule in the 3A PCL is not very strong, outside of Ohara. That is not their fault, they play who is in their league. That is why they go out and find games against better teams to prepare for the playoffs. In most cases matchups are locked in 2 yrs out. I think non league games vs West catholic,PCC, and the Prep is a pretty good non league schedule.

Let’s not act like ACC’s schedule is the most difficult in the state. Yes, they play a 4A schedule, but 3/4 of those teams are not very good.

  131. Reggie White says:

    James & Dog21
Being Wood fans, I would slow down on the 3A title talk. You should know that injuries change the dynamics immediately. D. Peoples has had injuries problems. They are not contenders without him. Wood could go 7-3, 6-4, 5-5 in the regular season and still make the state semis which is obviously how weak their schedule and district is. Just because PCC and Single A West Catholic are on their schedule does not all of a sudden boost their level of competition. You two need to hop in the car and take a ride outside of Philly area and see REAL football. Wood was in the state finals 3 years ago for the same reason – weak schedule, weak district play offs (Simon Gratz?) well rested after a week off from the playoffs. They get two weeks to prepare, they win and make the Eastern Final. Didn’t work so well when they ran into well coached teams like Thomas Jefferson who beat them 34-7, Selinsgrove who beat them 28-0, and ACC who beat them 49-21 (no one counts the TD at the buzzer to make it look respectable against the 4th string defense). I see history repeating itself – lots of chest pounding, recruiting, bragging, beat up inferior teams, breeze through the playoffs against the likes of the always tough Gratz, take a week off and rest, win a close game over the District 1 champs, and then run into a buzz saw! You know it, I know it, the state knows it. The entire situation is a joke. Wood will not win a state title because they don’t play anybody to get them ready. It would be best served for them to play PCC week 7 or 8. Week 1 is a poor measuring stick. Good luck woodies!

  132. James says:

Have to give wood credit for putting PCC and W. Catholic. Wood schedule last year was absolutely pathetic. Regardless of the outcome between Wood/PCC, both still should remain the favorite to win in 3a/4a. I do disagree on one point. Watch the tape of the wood/acc game. Other than the second play of the game it wasnt speed that beat the wood secondary, it was there lack of fundamentals in pass coverage. Wood schedule is very in improved week 1 and 2. The rest is bad, I dont buy that Ohara is as good as people think. I think ACC/Wood in 2011 Wood blows them out this year and finally claims the state title. As a LONG time wood fan and alum the only thing that really stands in our way from a state title is ourselves. Yes I am close to the wood program I know about Benji, I know they have a young kid at DB as well. But are there too many stars? too many egos? Im not saying I know something Im saying thats my only concern. I cant wait til we beat the heck out of ACC, and a state title.

  133. Dog21 says:

    Reggie White
Your low down on Wood for this year is not completely accurate.
I hear what you are saying and you make some valid points and I agree pre season ACC should be ranked ahead of Wood. I am very close to the program and it sounds like you are not. I would submit to you Wood will have 6-7 extremely fast and talented kids on their defense this year. They will have Nate,Desmon,Benji(bet you didnt know about him),Brandon(yes he will play defense),Kyle A, and a stud Soph. The PCL is different now because of classifications. A team like Wood now has to go out and find games because there is only 4 teams in their classification. Wood has scheduled games vs West Catholic(State Champion last year), Pittsburgh Central Catholic(probably ranked #1 in AAAA this year) are two examples of very good teams they will play. Cardinal OHara will be very good this year as well, and they will most likely see them 2x.
Wood has tremendous speed in their secondary this year, which they didnt have last year vs ACC. ACC still #1 until Wood knocks them off, BUT.. I think if they meet again the outcome will be different. IMO..

  134. Reggie White says:

Here is the low down on Wood. They play in a weak league where they kick the snot out of the teams. They get to skip a week of playoffs. They got crushed by ACC last year. Yes Peoples was out and they had another kid get hurt, but ACC lost McNeely in the game and were also missing the services of Connor Faust. They shut Wood out in the second half and scored at will. Wood may have 6 D1 kids, however all but one are being recruited for offense. Taylor is an OT, D. Peoples is a RB, B. Peoples is a RB and doesn’t play, Thompson is a TE, and Acciadiacono is a center. Yes Thompson, Taylor, and D. Peoples play defense too, but none address the issue of matching ACC speed. So they brought the Smith kid to be the answer to their coverage. He is only one player. You need 5 fast kids to match ACC’s 5 fast kids and a stud linebacker to keep Nosovitch from re-arranging the score board. Wood may score on ACC, but in the long run if this matchup happens, I am going with ACC. Division 1 talent can be “out-coached.”

  135. Dale Chalk says:

Not sure off an exact order.. but here it goes..

LaSalle (12) comes back with some depth.. Tim Wade at the running back spot as well as Magarity at QB (Hopefully plays stronger in post-season competition this year)and Sean Coleman who was very fun to watch last year and is only a Junior next year!

North Penn (1) will have that division in the Suburban One locked up due to talent from Ralphie Reeves and returning starting QB Corey Ernst… also have heard word that a little Akins is coming up

Neshaminy (1) Always competes in SOL.. Has a solid squad so i hear this year… Not too much in particular though

  136. Dog21 says:

    Mike,
I am a Wood fan and I hope you are right about this year. Last year, they were a very good team but not the best team in the State or the Country. You obviously are joking around. Last year they had holes in their secondary and ACC exploited their lack of speed. ACC,LaSalle,NA, and BM all were better than Wood last year IMO.

This year, they very well may be the best team in the state as they boost 6 D1 players. Pittsburgh Central Cath will be ranked #1 in AAAA. We will know very soon if Wood can play with them this year.I think they have all the ingredients to be #1 this year, but ACC will still be ranked ahead of them until they knock them off. IMO

  137. Buddy says:

    agreed

  138. nick says:

if you look further down the line buddy you will see i made picks and i was not making fun of anyone just didnt understand why he continued talking about lakeland and there history .

  139. Buddy says:

First week of the season ( 9/3): NP @ LaSalle. My #3 at my #1. This will tell us alot. Watch Liberty from D-11, and of course Cumerland Valley from D-3. We also have perennial powers Neshaminy, Ridley, Downingtown East and more from the toughest district in the state. Really impressive is the Catholic league success from D-12 since they entered the fray. As a D-1, and more specifically an NP fan, they have been killers at all of the divisions ( AAAA, AAA & AA).Makes great competition.

Hey Dog your either a Wood fan or your not… Wood was hands down the best team in the state last year and is the best team in the country this year. They’re gonna mercy rule PCC week 1, and mercy rule ACC week 15. There isn’t really even anyone including ACC and PCC that belongs in the same sentence. He we go Vikings!!!

  144. Douglas Andrews says:

Lakeland – After upsetting #1 Riverside in week 9 of 2010 at Riverside after being down 20 points and beating them 21-20. We are the only other team to beat them other than the state champions. Going 10-2 and winning the division with a very young team. Watch out for the Chiefs when we claim the District 2 AA championship! AND MORE? We have the most wins of all teams in entire District 2 from 2000-current. Also having won the District 2 A title in ’94, then winning the District 2 AA championship in ’00,’02,’03,’04,’06. Also runner up in Districts ’05,’08,’09,’10. Division Champs in’71,’72,’74,’75,’76,’77,’78,’79,’80,’81,’82,’87, ’94,’96,’00,’01,’02,’03,’04,’05,’06,’10. A team that was built on family, community, tradition. We are destined for GREATNESS!

  145. Mark says:

Not hearing a whole lot about Dallas. Are they the sleeper in AAA? Great coach, and over 20 seniors on this year’s team. From what I’ve been told they have great size, and a kid who could throw the ball a ton.

  146. paul from philly says:

    Buddy,
The running back’s name was Jamaal Rachmann. I don’t know if that’s the correct spelling but he was something running the ball. He was very good as a d-back also. He’s playing for Villanova now. They are some pretty big shoes to fill.

  147. mark says:

last year N.P vrs V.V valley vire was in the red zone 5 times and scored 6 points wasnt the kids who lost that game

  148. littleguyscoach says:

I totally agree with lasalle they can end up maybe 4-5 in the city alone behind roman,st.joes, west, frankford

  149. Buddy says:

    @ paul from Philly:

As I understand, LaSalle has a lot coming back. Q-back, receivers, D-backs, I believe they lost that super star running back ( also great D-back) from last year ( forget his name), or at least, as a NP fan, I hope he’s gone. NP lost their ENTIRE back field ( except QB), which means they also lost their entire defensive back field. For a school that suits 120 players, I’ve never seen so many two-way players. Good chance LaSalle handles NP ( then of course NP will rattle off 12 wins in a row before they get challanged again), don’t know about Bergen catholic ( although I hear they’re a power every year), West catholic will be a problem for you guys. They could probably have beaten most Quad A schools in the playoffs last year. Can’t wait…. love this stuff

  150. paul from philly says:

La Salle, with a new OC and a bunch of fresh, untested talent could start off the season 0 and 3. First they play North Penn, then Bergen Catholic from Jersey and then West Catholic. Just sayin.

  151. bert says:

You’re right Mark, in AAA Berwick, Coughlin, Crestwood and Dallas all should be solid teams this year. Look for good games in week 1 beween Coughlin and Dallas and week 3 Valley View at Coughlin.

  152. Jack says:

    Response to bert:

As fo the NP vs VV last year, I expected them to be better against the run as they were in other games. Try and force NP to throw with the backup QB. Thats all nothing more. Good luck to all the teams in the upcoming season!

  153. Jack says:

    Response to bert:

To say VV has more good and talented players back at almost every position than anyone in District 2 at any classification is a bold statement. DV will be a force this year. NP will have a solid 11 not sure how deep they will be. Abington is just a machine. That is not to say VV will not be a good team. They will…I think like most years Distric 2 will be fun to watch.

  154. Mark says:

Any love for any of the teams in the Wyoming Valley Conference? I heard WVW and coughlin look good.

  155. bert says:

    Response to Jack:
Don’t understand you’re reasoning about VV losing to NP last year. You’re right, they were a talented team, no shame there. If NP’s line grows up is a big if. VV has more good and talented players back at almost every position than anyone in District 2 at any classification. Agreed West’s quarterback last year made them go.

  156. Jack says:

Suprised to see all the hype about Valley View and West Scranton. I do agree they should be be good but I want to see who the QB for West is as they have big shoes to fill. Also, Valley view lost to a talented NP team that only threw the ball 4 times the whole game. I think distric 2 will be a toss up….can’t forget Abington they only lost 1 regular season game in 2 years. NP should be in the mix if the line grows up quick.
    Can’t wait for the season!

  157. Buddy says:

    @ nick:
C’mon nick. That’s such a vaugue statement. Anyone could say that. Don’t be so boring, venture a quess, that’s what this blog is all about!

  158. nick says:

  159. Buddy says:

    1.) LaSalle
    2.) D-town East
    3.) North penn
    4.) Neshaminy
    5.) Liberty

  160. Rich says:

@ Dog21 – Expect a close game. Wood and WC are very familiar with one another. They’ve been battling for years. It’ll definitely be a treat. We’ll find out on 9/10 whether Wood is a great as everyone believes them to be.

  161. Nick says:

and james not to mention that strath haven cant pick and choose the best athletes and recruit like cathollic schools

  162. Nick says:

James sorry to inform you buth this wood team is not the best in pa history, that would go to strath haven, best coaches, two state championships ,11 straight district titles,94 consecutive district wins. wood has nothing on that panthers dyanasty

  163. Dog21 says:

WC will be good this year for sure. I am glad Devlin and Kluck were able to get this rivalry game back on the schedule. But I would be surprised if WC stayed within 10 points of Wood in this game. AAA is VERY strong this year so to say WC is the best team fro
    AAA down is a stretch

  164. Rich says:

Tune in 9/10 at 7p when Wood battles AA’s West Catholic. Quite frankly, WC is the best team from Eastern PA from AAA down.

  165. markdodgson says:

drew west returns a defence who could not stop any body last year. valley view returns the the leading rusher and lot of speed coming up form underclass men

  166. Ron says:

Moose, yeah sorry haha, I think that is a pretty solid top 5. ACC and Wood are obviously the best 2 teams in AAA. And as bad as ACC did beat Abington last year, i still think district 2 has 2 nice squads in Vally View and West Scranton.

  167. Dan says:

  169. Warez says:

Bishop Shanahan not in the Top 5 ? You guys are Crazy !!!

  170. Joe says:

    Dog21,

Nice to see a no nonsense, legitimate, intelligent post from a Wood fan. ACC clearly was the best team in AAA last season and maybe the best team in the state. Barring key injuries I would be shocked if the 2011 AAA state champion is not ACC or Wood. They both return many quality athletes and ACC is aware that Wood added quality DBs. Wood got beat badly by ACC’s speed last season. I fully expect ACC and Wood to be two of the best teams in the state in any classification. Both teams have tough AAAA openers (Wood=PCC and ACC=Downingtown East) but I think they will both do fine. The one thing that I disagree with is that the number of D1 athletes on a roster dictates one team being a favorite. Intangibles come into play and remember that ACC has the wild card (Nosovitch). ACC had only 2 D1 athletes on the team last season (Nosovitch=South Carolina and McNeely=New Hampshire) and we know how the season turnrd out.

  171. Drew says:

I like West Scranton at 4 over Valley View for the simple fact that West Scranton’s defense has only lost a few players and offensively they have a lot of weapons returning, with the addition of some big lineman. I think they are the AAA team to beat this year in District 2. They have a lot of speed returning also.

  172. Ron says:

    Class AAA
    1. Allentown Central Catholic (3)
    2. Archbishop Wood (12)
    3. Bishop McDevitt (3)

  173. Dog21 says:

    Ants
I know Carey and Devlin from Wood have nothing but respect for ACC coaches and Players. Not sure what article you are referring to. I know for a fact Carey said multiple times that he had no answer for Nosovitch and that ACC was a juggernaut. Carey actually said they may have been the best team he ever faced. That is saying alot since Carey coached many of theose CB West teams

  174. Dog21 says:

I will be upfront and say I am a Wood fan. But some of you people give Wood fans a bad name with your crazy comments. Trust me Moose and the rest of ACC supporters, most Knowledgeable Wood fans who were at the game saw how good ACC was. ACC was the better team last year and they deserved to win the State Championship for sure. They were a very well coached team and the QB is a flat out stud. You could argue that Wood’s Middle LB Sam McCain kept Nosovitch in check in the first half(21-21 and Wood could have taken the lead not for a missed FG) before he got hurt. You could also say it might have been a different game if Peoples was playing. But the bottom line is that ACC took over in the 2nd half and won fair and square. Acc had a key injury early in the game as well. Injuries are part of the game. Congrats to ACC on a terrific year!No excuses.

Now, if we look at this year, looking at it objectively, Wood has to be the favorite in AAA, and they might be ranked in the top 5 in any classification. They have 7 D1 recruits(6 committed already), they have added two stud cornerbacks(which they did not have last year), and their Oline is 15 lbs heavier and faster across the front. Does this mean they are a guarantee to beat ACC and advance to win the State Title. Not at all.I heard ACC has added some good players and they have some very good players returning. We can all argue until we are blue in the face who is better, but nothing matters until they play the game. The other variable is injuries-Will Peoples,Nosovitch,Thompson,Robb all stay healthy?

All I know is this makes for good drama if they meet again in December!

  175. James says:

This Wood team will be the best team in the history of PA football. They have by far the best coaching staff, and on top of that have tons of division 1 talent. Most kids on ACC roster couldnt even start at. That is a fact.

  176. Moose says:

Uh, Doug Smith…Allentown CC plays in District 11.

Other than that, I like your picks.

I wouldn’t be surprised, depending on how the brackets are set up, to see McD and ACC meet up again in Hershey for all the AAA marbles.

    Sorry Archishop Wood.

    Well, not really…

  177. Moose says:

The #1 team in AAA in 2011 is the same team that was #1 in 2010.

    The ACC Vikings.

Wood fans…get over it…sometimes the better team wins and clearly, you were NOT the better team.

Lick your wounds and try again this year…GOOD LUCK!

  180. adam says:

acc steamrolled wood withouth two D1 recruits at linebacker in mcneely and faust, woods corners were too slow to stop the receivers and the linemen were too soft. nosovitch is so overrated he committed to a program in the SEC, yeah that makes sense. acc doesnt recruit either all these kids played together thru gradeschool, acc’s only flaw is they lose alot of guys up front so they may have to get creative with their blocking schemes not that it should matter a whole cuz nosovitch was hit as he threw alot for that game and only threw for 400+ yards but you right hes overrated ha

  181. Joe says:

I hope the Wood players aren’t as pathetic and classless as some of their fans. Instead of giving credit to the team that demolished your team last season and went on to go 16-0 and win the state title you make idiotic statements and excuses. Excuses are for losers. Nosovitch is so overrated that he was the only QB that Steve Spurrier at South Carolina recruited this year. But some of the Wood fan geniuses know more than Spurrier. As far as the ACC team, please tell me what else could they have done last season for them not to be “overrated”? FYI, if Wood happens to win the state title this season I’ll be the first one to congratulate them because they will need to get past a very good ACC team to do it.

You are correct. ACC and Nosovitch are overrated. They “only” hung over 600 yards of offense and 7 touchdowns on that great Archbishp Wood machine. I’d hate to see the results if they weren’t overrated. Hang in there. Wood will eventually win one. By the way, did Wood and their coach get the license number of that truck that ran them over on December 10?

  186. Ants says:
